Dongtan Station pho bar, chilly solo meal & just 3 tendons: Mibundang

In short

Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is a bar-counter pho restaurant on the first floor of Dongtan Station Richian Arcade, a 5-minute walk from Dongtan Station in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. On a chilly day the writer stopped in alone for the brisket, flank and tendon pho (chadol yangji himjul ssalguksu), and the chewy tendon, hand-torn flank and rich yet clean beef broth stood out, though the bowl had only 3 pieces of tendon. Thanks to its quiet dining culture, Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch is an easy pho spot for eating alone near Dongtan Station.

Is Mibundang Dongtan Station Branch good for eating alone?

Inside, there are no face-to-face regular tables; instead there are bar tables around an open kitchen, so it's easy to eat comfortably alone. It's cozy, and since the kitchen is open and you can see everything, they're seriously hygienic ✨ The kitchen is super clean too!!!

Mibundang's biggest charm is its quiet dining culture. People eat calmly rather than talking loudly, so there's no better place for a solo meal.

Mibundang pho menu and side dishes

The main pho is divided by the topping cut: brisket (chadol-baegi, thin-sliced beef brisket), flank (yangji), and tendon (himjul) pho! The brisket-flank-tendon pho, which lets you taste several cuts at once, is my absolute favorite 🫶🏻 Sides include sweet potato jjajo (fried rolls), scallop jjajo, shrimp-wrapped potato rolls, buffalo wings and more, plus a mixed jeon (Korean pan-fried fritters) style platter that's perfect for sharing.

I remember the jjajo being delicious before, but it's too much for one person, so I passed today 💨

Generous, right!? Honestly, I always leave some noodles behind... The portion is big and it looks super hearty 🤞🏻

Brisket: wide slices with a nutty richness

The brisket in this bowl comes sliced pretty wide, you know?! Wrap it in noodles and bean sprouts and eat it in one bite, and the nutty flavor is the real deal 🤎

Flank: mild, hand-torn

The flank is torn along the grain, and maybe because it's a leaner cut? It's nutty and super mild ➰ I watched them tear it by hand, piece by piece, in the kitchen!

Tendon: the highlight, but only three pieces

And personally, I think the highlight of this bowl is the tendon ❤️ It's nicely salty, and the chewy, springy texture is crazy good. There are three pieces, and I wanted to add more. Boss, please open an add-on option... 🫠

Free extra noodles and sprouts, and the broth

At Mibundang, with one meal ordered per person, you can get extra noodles and bean sprouts for free! Isn't that too generous..? 🙊 If you need more food, just ask without hesitation, and if you ask, they'll prepare cilantro separately too!

The broth was deep and rich, and felt soothing for the stomach, and I liked that the spice aroma isn't overpowering. I finished my solo meal neatly and left 🤎
