Yangjaecheon tonkatsu, cheese katsu and shrimp sets: Yangjae Katsu
In short
Yangjae Katsu is a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant in Yangjae-dong, Seocho, Seoul, about a 10-minute walk from Yangjae Station. On this dinner visit, the writer, a long-time regular, ordered the cheese katsu + fried shrimp set and the hire katsu (tenderloin) + fried shrimp set, with oozing mozzarella, moist tenderloin and thick black tiger shrimp. For crisp batter and a juicy inside, the writer rates Yangjae Katsu the best tonkatsu in Yangjae-dong.

What is Yangjae Katsu?
Yangjae Katsu is a well-known neighborhood tonkatsu spot in Yangjae-dong, and every time I go, on weekends or at the weekday lunch rush, it's full. It's also a place I keep coming back to, so I'm a proper regular by now. It's always packed with people 👥
I had a hearty dinner at Yangjae Katsu again just yesterday, and the tonkatsu was crispy and juicy! I'll share the full review below.
Yangjae Katsu location, opening hours and parking
Yangjae Katsu is open daily 11:00-21:00, has parking in front of the restaurant, and does takeout and delivery too. It's about a 10-minute walk from Yangjae Station and very close to Yangjaecheon stream 🌳
You can park right in front of the restaurant, but the spaces sometimes fill up, so I'd recommend looking up a public car park nearby just in case 🚘

Is Yangjae Katsu good for eating alone?
Yangjae Katsu has bar-table style seats for solo diners, so eating alone is easy. The inside is clean, pleasant and nicely decorated, and quite a few people stop by alone for a relaxed meal on the way home from work 💡

Yangjae Katsu menu and the shrimp sets we ordered
The Yangjae Katsu menu is built around four kinds of tonkatsu: tenderloin (hire), loin (rosu), cheese and shrimp, with sides like cold buckwheat noodles (soba) or udon to go with them 📝
Every time we come to Yangjae Katsu I remember how good the shrimp katsu is, so this time we ordered two shrimp sets, each with the main katsu plus one fried shrimp.

- Cheese katsu + fried shrimp
- Hire katsu + fried shrimp

Does the Yangjae Katsu cheese katsu really ooze mozzarella?
The cheese katsu at Yangjae Katsu comes as four big pieces with a fried shrimp on top, and it's stuffed so full that mozzarella oozes out when you bite in. My boyfriend orders only this cheese katsu every single time. He is really serious about his cheese... 🧀
Fluffy rice, soup, kkakdugi (radish kimchi), pickled onions, Maldon salt, wasabi and tonkatsu sauce are served on the tray with the tonkatsu as the basic side dishes.

The mozzarella inside looks like good quality at a glance, and it tasted very nutty and rich. It's packed so full that it oozes out when you bite in, so nutty and creamy〰️ and the outside is fried crisp, a crunchy-outside, juicy-inside tonkatsu!

Such perfectly fried, crispy tonkatsu..💛

How juicy is the Yangjae Katsu hire katsu?
The hire katsu at Yangjae Katsu is a round piece of tenderloin, fried and served cut in half, and the cross-section is full of moisture, so it's a super soft and juicy tenderloin katsu! 🥩 This is the one I ordered.

See how the breadcrumb coating still has its texture? The crust is nice and crackly, the thick tenderloin is tender to chew, and it's full of juice, so it was moist with nothing dry about it! Yangjae Katsu is the best tonkatsu place in Yangjae-dong..👍
Maldon salt, tartar sauce and cabbage salad
The cheese katsu and hire katsu come with the same side dishes, and since we ordered shrimp katsu, we also got tartar sauce! Even just dipping the katsu in Maldon salt brings out its clean flavor, so so good, you know? Hehe 🧂
They give you a generous soup bowl full of cabbage salad, so it was great for mixing in between bites of tonkatsu and eating as much as I wanted! 🥗

How good is the Yangjae Katsu black tiger shrimp?
The fried shrimp at Yangjae Katsu is made with black tiger shrimp, and it's thick and big right from the look of it. I saved it for last as the final treat 🍤
The shrimp meat inside is plump and packed full! Really thick and mild, and crunchy-crispy, absolutely delicious 🙌🏻

Yangjae Katsu in one line
Yangjae Katsu is right next to the Yangjaecheon café street, a good pick whether you're after a Yangjaecheon or Yangjae-dong restaurant. From the nutty cheese katsu to the soft, juicy hire katsu and the plump black tiger shrimp, it's the best tonkatsu place in Yangjae-dong 🌱
- Cheese katsu with oozing mozzarella
- Tender hire katsu (tenderloin)
- Mild black tiger shrimp tempura-style fry
- Clean solo-dining seats
