Staff-grilled pork BBQ at Yangjae Station: galbi, gabrisal, Gukgojip
In short
Gukgojip is a Korean BBQ restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, 3 minutes from Yangjae Station, where staff grill fresh pork galbi (pork ribs) and gabrisal (pork shoulder cap) over charcoal for you. Two diners ordered 2 servings of fresh pork galbi and added 1 serving of gabrisal; the thick-cut galbi dipped in salt was the best bite, and the spicy kongbiji (soybean pulp) stew served with meat orders was good too. For neatly staff-grilled pork near Yangjae Station, Gukgojip is a solid choice.

Gukgojip near Yangjae Station: location and hours
Gukgojip (국고집) is a pork galbi and gabrisal (pork shoulder-butt) restaurant 3 minutes from Yangjae Station. It is open every day, Monday to Sunday, 10:00–22:00, with a break from 14:30 to 16:00 on weekdays.

Even while walking up, the clean look of the building caught my eye. This Yangjae pork belly spot has a full glass front, so you can see the tidy, spacious interior from outside.
Is Gukgojip good for a group dinner?
Inside, the tables are spaced widely and there are lots of seats, so it looks great for company dinners and group gatherings. Here's what it looks like.

A spacious, tidy BBQ place near Yangjae Station! The name apparently means "a place with great gukbap (rice soup) and meat." There's a basement floor too, and we could hear a group dinner going on down there, haha.
Gukgojip menu: lunch dishes and meat
The menu is neatly split into lunch meals and meat dishes.

Gukbap, seolleongtang (ox bone soup), jeyuk-bokkeum (spicy stir-fried pork), bibimbap, meat set meals, even naengmyeon (cold noodles) 🫢🫢 quite a lineup! Considering Yangjae Station prices, this lunch menu looks easy on office workers' wallets.

The meat options include fresh pork galbi, marinated galbi, pork belly with pork rind, gabrisal and more! We originally planned on pork belly, but when we heard that ordering pork belly with rind gives you half pork belly and half rind, we changed course to the fresh pork galbi, which has no rind!!
I wondered what exactly "fresh pork galbi" was, and when it arrived it looked like one chunk of pork belly and one chunk of the pork rib section. Fresh beef galbi-sal and marinated beef galbi-sal are also at a reasonable price in the low ₩20,000s per serving. The menu seems perfect for Yangjae Station company dinners.
Gukgojip side dishes and the free kongbiji stew
The table setting comes with wasabi, salted seafood (jeotgal), salt and ssamjang (dipping paste), plus white kimchi, green onion kimchi, pickled radish and pickled onion.

It's exactly the tidy, solid spread you picture at a BBQ restaurant, haha. The barley tea in particular was super nutty and delicious.

Order meat and you get kongbiji stew (soybean pulp stew) by default! It's fairly spicy, so it goes well with a bowl of rice, haha. The bottom of the pot was packed with kongbiji, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Gukgojip fresh pork galbi for two: how does the grilling turn out?

Two servings of glossy fresh pork galbi arrive ✨✨ It looks fresh at a glance. How does meat get this shiny..? It also comes with shishito-style peppers and green onions to grill alongside, a thoughtful touch, haha.

The hot charcoal came out soon after, haha. They coat the grill with a piece of fatty meat for oiling, then grill the galbi for you themselves 😙

My favorite was the classic combo: one big piece of meat with salt, haha. Eating it with wasabi is good too, since it cuts the richness.

Two servings of galbi, grilled in no time by the charcoal heat! They cut it thick, so there's a satisfying chew, and this size is just my style, haha. Grilled green onions with the meat are an amazing combo too.

Adding 1 serving of gabrisal: how does it compare to the galbi?
Two of us need at least 3 servings, so we added 1 serving of Gukgojip's gabrisal!! It looked very fresh and translucent, haha.
The gabrisal is thin and cooks quickly, and it's tender and chewy, with a different charm from the pork belly galbi! Still, the classic pork belly galbi was my favorite 😚😚
If you're looking for a place near Yangjae Station that grills pork belly for you, I recommend the clean, tasty Gukgojip.
