Jongno 3-ga Korean BBQ, garlic scape pickle potato wraps for 2: Cham
In short
Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch (참돼짓간 종로본점) is a charcoal-grilled pork restaurant on the ground floor of Picadilly CGV at Jongno 3-ga Station in Jongno, Seoul. On a late weekday visit, two of us had Jirisan black pork neck (18,000 won), Boseong Nokdon cheongyeopsal (pork jowl, 19,000 won), steamed egg (5,000 won) and two servings of fried rice (3,000 won each); the staff grilled the meat to the end, and the potato wraps topped with pickled garlic scapes stood out. Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch is a Jongno 3-ga Korean BBQ spot with quality pork, unlimited refills on side dishes and thoughtful little extras.

Where is Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch?
Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch (참돼짓간 종로본점) is a well-known pork BBQ restaurant near Jongno 3-ga, on the 1st floor of Picadilly CGV at 1 Donhwamun-ro 5ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. Today I'm sharing my visit ⭐️

Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch / 1-89 Picadilly CGV 1F, 1 Donhwamun-ro 5ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul

It's a 1-minute walk from Jongno 3-ga Station Exits 2 and 2-1. It's only 2–3 minutes on foot from Ikseon-dong, so it's easy to fit into your route, and since it's on the first floor of the CGV cinema building, it was easy to find :)

Is there a wait at Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch?
There can usually be a wait, so I'd recommend checking Catch Table (a Korean reservation app) before you go. There's a good variety of seating inside, and I visited late on a weekday.

What we ordered for 2 and the prices
You order by table order, which I liked. You can see the whole menu with photos and descriptions! Here's what the two of us ordered, and we ate until we were really full!
- Jirisan black pork neck ₩18,000
- Boseong pork jowl (hangjeongsal) ₩19,000
- Steamed egg ₩5,000
- Fried rice ₩3,000 × 2

What sauces and side dishes come out?
There are six basic sauces, which is great for eating to your own taste. They were ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste), garlic, salt, shiitake mushroom wasabi sauce, fresh wasabi and a spicy sauce!

You can also grill minari (water dropwort), kimchi and bean sprouts in the meat fat haha

There's also scallion salad, ssam vegetables and cabbage salad!

They had pickled garlic stems (maneuljjong jangajji) too! I'd never tried them before and they were so appealing 😄 All the vegetable sides except minari are unlimited, so you can keep refilling at the self-serve zone without worrying!

Do the staff grill the meat?
Yes, the staff grill all the meat for you! Potatoes, shishito peppers and button mushrooms came out along with the fresh meat.

I was impressed that they use only charcoal, and the handmade grill plate doesn't spatter oil, so I could eat comfortably without worrying about grease on my clothes.

We didn't have to pick up the tongs at all because they kept grilling for us, which was so nice haha

Is the steamed egg worth ordering?
The steamed egg (₩5,000) was fluffy and so soft, really delicious... If you always order steamed egg at a BBQ place, you have to order it here too..

How do the Jirisan black pork neck and Boseong jowl taste?
After a short wait, the neck and jowl were already grilled golden brown!!

The Jirisan black pork neck had a subtle rice-husk smoke flavor, and you could really feel the smoky grill aroma! Maybe because it's grilled over charcoal, the outside was slightly crispy and the inside full of juice, and every bite burst with juiciness 😋
The Boseong pork jowl had lively marbling, so the texture was much softer, with a good balance of chewy and melting! Dipped in salt and wasabi, the natural savory flavor of the meat came through, and eaten with minari and scallion salad it was clean with no greasiness!!

Garlic-stem pickle potato wrap combo
Below the table order screen there are 6 classic pork BBQ combinations, and I enjoyed eating while looking at them haha

The potato wrap (gamja-ssam) I was so looking forward to!! Thinly sliced potato grilled golden, topped with pickled garlic stems, then meat and shiitake wasabi sauce on top, and it was seriously so good...

How is the fried rice to finish?
The fried rice is ₩3,000 per person, and of course it's a must, right?!?! We ordered it for two, so we got two eggs too!! The leftover meat fat and kimchi on the grill soaked in, so it was nutty, fluffy and savory and so good!!

Extras at Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch and overall verdict
They have phone chargers, hair ties, disposable aprons, plastic bags for your clothes, kids' tableware, mints, Wi-Fi, toothpicks, dental floss and mouthwash! They thought of every little thing you might need, which made for a really pleasant meal 🥹
Overall, the meat quality is good, the side dishes are unlimited, and the service is detailed, so I can see why it's famous as a Jongno 3-ga pork BBQ spot! I think it works for group dinners or a casual meal too, so I'd recommend Cham Dwaejitgan Jongno Main Branch to anyone looking for Korean BBQ in Jongno.
