Yeouido lunch spot for half-and-half chicken rice: Jeongyun Kitchen

In short

Jeongyun Kitchen is a Singaporean home-cooking restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gongjak Sangga, 182m from Exit 1 of Yeouinaru Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. A couple arrived during the office lunch rush, waited 5-10 minutes for a table, and shared a Singapore chicken rice half-and-half (17,000 won) and a red curry chicken rice (16,000 won). With cilantro and cucumber checked off at the tablet order and free rice refills, Jeongyun Kitchen works well for two people with different tastes.

Today's post is - ! Just went yesterday, a Yeouinaru Station restaurant that's also perfect for a lunch near The Hyundai — here's my review of Jeongyun Kitchen ∘˚˳°∘°

How far is Jeongyun Kitchen from Yeouinaru Station?

Jeongyun Kitchen is just 182m from Exit 1 of Yeouinaru Station — super close! It's on the 2nd floor, Room 206, of the Gongjak Sangga building, and seems to be quite famous as a lunch spot among office workers around Yeouido. It's only open for lunch hours, 11:00 - 14:00, and it's also very close to The Hyundai Seoul in Yeouido, making it a great pick for a lunch there too.

We happened to visit right when it overlapped with office workers' lunch hour, so there was about one party waiting 🥺 We got seated after a 5-10 minute wait.

Jeongyun Kitchen sells 'Singaporean home cooking,' a special menu that made me even more curious as an Asian food restaurant. Somehow everything on the menu looked exotic yet delicious, so we waited full of anticipation 〰

Inside Jeongyun Kitchen and how tablet ordering works

Jeongyun Kitchen has a tablet at every table, so we could order and pay comfortably right from our seat. As soon as a table opened up, a kind staff member showed us to our seat — and along the way, the sentimental little menu was just too cute 🤭

Even the store atmosphere was full of that cute, warm sentiment - ! It was a small and cozy place, but every corner felt touched by the owner's hand, filled with adorable lighting and little props — Jeongyun Kitchen was just so pretty and cute.

They said the rice is a mix of Joseon Hyangmi rice and Thai jasmine rice!

What the couple ordered: cilantro options and free rice refills

Jeongyun Kitchen's main menu items are Singapore chicken rice, char siu chicken rice, red curry chicken rice, sesame chicken noodles, chicken rice half-and-half — plus a side dish, cucumber salad, that looked good to pair with. We ordered the Singapore chicken rice half-and-half, red curry chicken rice, and a cola.

+ You can check boxes when ordering to remove or add cilantro, cucumber, peanuts, etc. according to your taste, so we didn't need to ask separately, and ++ rice can also be refilled for free with no extra charge! My husband, who hates both cucumber and cilantro, got both left out, while I, a cilantro lover (^ㅁ^), of course kept mine and even asked for extra cilantro haha

The drink came out first. We ordered just one, but they brought us two glasses.. it might seem like a small thing, but that kind of thoughtfulness and sense really touched me 🥺

The red curry chicken rice served first

First out was my pick, the red curry chicken rice 〰 and soon after, my husband's choice, the Singapore chicken rice half-and-half, arrived too.

Both dishes were so neatly plated and looked delicious! Since we wanted to try both, we shared, taking bites of each other's.

🍗 Singapore Chicken Rice Half & Half (17,000 won)

A dish where you can enjoy chicken that's been low-temp cooked then ice-bathed to make the skin plump and the meat moist, alongside crispy chicken cutlet. Comes with aromatic rice, chili sauce, dark soy sauce, and a warm broth.

The chicken was so-o soft and moist it was almost surreal. Seriously, if I had chicken breast like this at home, I could totally do a clean diet every day 🤣 And the chicken cutlet — so crispy outside, juicy inside...! The batter was fried just crispy enough, and the chicken inside was full of juice and moist.

🍛 Red Curry Chicken Rice (16,000 won)

A mildly spicy curry, gently wrapped in coconut milk and cashew milk. An exotic plate with chicken cutlet and aromatic rice.

As they served it, the smell was so good I immediately sensed the red curry would be right up my alley 🤭 The coconut milk combo gave it an exotic, creamy taste, plus a subtle spiciness and umami — it was just so delicious! Besides the chicken cutlet on top of the rice, the curry itself was loaded with potatoes and chicken too.

A cilantro lover like me piled it on generously and took a big bite.. 🤤 The chicken in the curry was also moist and tender, and the crispy-outside-juicy-inside chicken cutlet tasted even better dipped generously in the curry!

Is Jeongyun Kitchen worth it for a Yeouido lunch?

It had been a while since I'd visited Yeouido, and this ended up being a wonderfully unusual meal — today's lunch pick was a total success 🙌 If you're looking for a Yeouinaru Station restaurant, a Yeouido lunch spot, or somewhere special for a lunch near The Hyundai, I'm recommending Jeongyun Kitchen wholeheartedly 🌿✨
