Sinnonhyeon café after samgyetang, corn scone: Something About Coffee

In short

Something About Coffee (썸띵어바웃커피) is a three-floor dessert café on Gangnam-daero 102-gil in Gangnam, Seoul, on the hillside street between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station. Arriving full from a samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) lunch, the writer shared a Chodang sweet corn cream cheese scone, a Yangzhi Ganlu (mango pomelo) cheesecake, a matcha cold brew and a grapefruit ade in the antique-style seating on the 3rd floor. Despite a full stomach, all four items at Something About Coffee were finished to the last bite, and every pick was a hit.

Full from samgyetang, but headed to a Sinnonhyeon Station dessert café anyway

Something About Coffee is a photogenic, atmospheric dessert café near Sinnonhyeon Station, up the hill from Gangnam Station. That day I'd had samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) for lunch. A bit early for a stamina dish, haha. I was so, so full~ but I still needed dessert, right? So I went looking for a café near Sinnonhyeon Station and headed to Something About Coffee, which has great atmosphere for photos and tasty desserts too.

Which floor do you order on at Something About Coffee?

Something About Coffee is a three-floor building, and you order on the 2nd floor. Climbing stairs is a pain, but the order counter is on the 2nd floor, so up I go..

Cookies, scones and other baked goods

This Sinnonhyeon Station café is a dessert hotspot! On the 2nd-floor bakery table, all kinds of cookies and other baked goods were waiting for me. Choosing is always the hard part, lol. I'd just had a huge samgyetang lunch and was really full! But one look at the bakery table and I caught myself picking desserts like I'd never eaten a meal.

It's getting hotter, so when exactly am I supposed to diet? Several times a day I debate whether to try Mounjaro (a weight-loss injection) or not. I eat when I'm full, I eat when I'm sick, I eat even when it's up to my throat, so I'm worried I'd end up beating the drug instead, haha. At this rate I might be rushing to the hospital next week? ㅠㅠㅠㅠ Wait, what nonsense am I saying with delicious bakery right in front of me? Eat first, think later.

The cake showcase and choosing a drink

The Something About Coffee showcase has lots of cakes packed with fresh cream. I should pick a cake too, right? My usual taste would be the pistachio matcha cheesecake, but Yangzhi Ganlu (mango-pomelo-grapefruit dessert) is the trend right now, isn't it? I hadn't tried it yet, and this Sinnonhyeon Station café has it as a cheesecake, so today's the day. Yangzhi Ganlu day! Okay, I choose you!

The bakery selection is varied, and so are the drinks. I left early that morning and hadn't had coffee yet, so I picked from the coffee menu. And since I'm here, a plain americano would be a letdown, right? I'll go for one topped with plenty of cream. Guess what I picked!

The 3rd floor of Something About Coffee has the best atmosphere and was also the quietest. Oh my, so I settled in there. It's vintage, cozy and antique, so it's great for atmospheric photos too. There are terrace seats as well, just so you know! Though it's too hot to sit outside now, I guess...

The four items I ordered that day

And here's my order! Matcha cold brew, grapefruit ade, Yangzhi Ganlu cheesecake and corn cream cheese scone. Every choice was a success that day, haha. I was really full, but it was so good that I scraped everything clean!

Corn cream cheese scone

The corn cream cheese scone has corn cream inside a slightly dry, crumbly scone, so it was nutty and sweet. I love scones and tend to enjoy any kind! But this isn't just plain cream, it's a chodang corn (super-sweet corn) cream cheese scone, so it was extra good~ It felt almost like a meal, and a real treat.

Yangzhi Ganlu cheesecake

The Yangzhi Ganlu cheesecake has the trendy Yangzhi Ganlu on top of a cheesecake. Sweet-tart mango and grapefruit come with cream, and the popping bubbles make the texture so fun! You get a really wide range of flavors. It's so refreshing that I think it would be great on top of any dessert!

How to enjoy the matcha cold brew

The matcha cold brew is cold brew coffee topped with matcha cream! Slurp the matcha cream first, then sip the cold brew through the straw, and once you're about halfway, mix it all together. That way you taste three different flavors~ The matcha cream is so good!

Grapefruit ade

And a tangy-sweet grapefruit ade too~ Did I really just come from samgyetang? lol But it was so good it slid right down! I thought I'd leave some, but that didn't happen.... haha
