Gangnam jazz bar weekend with a friend: Iberico steak at Flat Nine

What kind of bar is Flat Nine near Gangnam Station?
Flat Nine is a bar near Gangnam Station where you can eat a full course meal while watching live jazz right in front of you. Thanks to the Iberico steak course and the jazz, this weekend's Gangnam Station date with my friend was a total success. ♡

Imagine enjoying a delicious course meal in the middle of Gangnam, with live jazz unfolding right before your eyes?!

What is the atmosphere at Flat Nine like?
The lighting, table layout and even the performance stage were stylishly done, so it's a space that suits a special occasion. I liked everything, from the atmosphere to the food, the performance and the service.
I usually like restaurants with a good atmosphere, but at Flat Nine I gasped the moment I walked in.

How do reservations, seating and weekend show times work at Flat Nine?
I booked ahead on Naver, and because I wanted to really enjoy the performance, I sat in the center seats with a good view of the stage. On weekends, course orders open from 3 PM, and there are two sets of about 40 minutes each starting at 4 PM. Of course, there are evening performances too.
Choosing the center seat was such a good call! Sitting at the table, relaxing over a course meal while watching jazz right in front of you. If you're looking for a Gangnam Station bar with great atmosphere, you'll love this place.

We went at a time when we could enjoy both the food and the performance, and we were really happy with it.
How was the course starter at Flat Nine?
From the bite-sized dish served in a small bowl to the elegant starter topped with caviar, the very first plates looked beautiful. You could feel the care in every one, and the explanations of the course menu were super thorough.
Honestly, since it's a restaurant with jazz, I'd gone expecting more from the atmosphere. But wow, the food was far beyond what I expected!

It wasn't just pretty food: the flavor combinations were great and even the textures in the mouth were fun. I thought it could give pricier fine-dining restaurants a run for their money!
Bread and butter, ragu lasagna
The bread and butter served alongside were tasty too. Warm bread with butter was full of rich, nutty flavor! The ragu lasagna that followed was also really good; the rich, hearty ragu sauce was so appealing that I smeared plenty of bread through the leftover sauce.

Can you just watch the show at Flat Nine without ordering food?
You don't have to eat at Flat Nine; you can come with just the performance fee and one drink per person! There was also a cocktail discount during happy hour, 3 PM–6 PM.

This dish had a great sauce and great fried bits too! And midway through the course, a palate cleanser came out, which let me enjoy the next main dish even more.

I had a glass of Black Rye on the rocks, and my friend had a fresh, zesty signature cocktail. A drink in a place with a nice atmosphere just feels good.

How does the Iberico steak taste at Flat Nine?
The highlight of the Flat Nine course was the main, the Iberico steak. Even though it was quite thick, it was cooked well, not tough but tender and full of rich flavor.
I was wowed by how it looked, a thick cut of steak, and it was juicy, with a true meaty flavor that comes through the more you chew. The sauce went well with the meat, and the onion and mushroom garnishes were all delicious too. Usually I leave some of the garnish when eating a main dish, but that day the onions and mushrooms were so good that I finished everything. The quality of the main raised my satisfaction with the food even more.

Above all, I liked the timing of the dishes and the staff's service. It's not just a place to come for a show; it's a restaurant I'd want to return to for a proper course meal.
How was the jazz trio performance at Flat Nine?
While I was sipping whisky and cocktails, the live jazz trio began. Sitting in the center, I could see the players' expressions, their hand movements and how they played their instruments, all vividly.
Good food has to come with a good drink, right! While I was enjoying food and drinks under soft lighting, the show started before I knew it. The rhythm and the chemistry of the passionate three-piece jazz trio were wonderful. I could see the musicians' faces clearly, so I was totally focused✨️✨️
