Cutlassfish braise is one of those foods you can't skip on a Jeju trip! This time I found a place near Seongsan Ilchulbong where you can eat a big, generous braise.
It's Seongsan Bada Punggyeong Jeju Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (성산바다풍경 제주성산일출봉점). Order the braise and they give you a grilled whole cutlassfish for free. Let me show you!

An ocean-view lunch spot after Seongsan Ilchulbong
The restaurant is close to Seongsan Ilchulbong, so it's perfect for stopping by after your visit. We came for lunch, and it's an ocean-view place where you can see both Seongsan Ilchulbong and Udo at a glance.
The big parking area is a real plus, especially if you're travelling by rental car! Parking in Jeju can be a surprisingly annoying thing, so I liked this.

The inside is clean with plenty of seats, so it looks good for families and groups too.

What are the side dishes like? Homemade kimchi and wild rock seaweed
The restaurant puts a lot of care into its side dishes, like homemade kimchi and natural rock seaweed (dolmiyeok). They say the kimchi is made in-house rather than imported from China, and the other sides are homemade too.
The natural rock seaweed is the signature side. They say it's a treat dipped in the house chogochujang (sweet-and-sour chili sauce), made with 25 years of know-how plus three kinds of fruit.

And the seaweed soup is self-serve with unlimited refills! It's made with broth simmered for 3 hours, so it was really rich and tasty.

Mixed braise prices and the grilled cutlassfish bonus
The signature dish is the mixed braise, where you get both cutlassfish and mackerel: ₩39,000 for 2 people, ₩59,000 for 3 and ₩79,000 for 4. You get Jeju cutlassfish along with plump Norwegian mackerel.
- ✔ 2 people ₩39,000
- ✔ 3 people ₩59,000
- ✔ 4 people ₩79,000
The most surprising part: order the mixed braise and you get a grilled whole Jeju cutlassfish for free! Even a single cutlassfish braise in Jeju isn't cheap, so this is pretty good value, right?

How does the braise for two taste? Thick cutlassfish, bones removed for you
Ta-da, the braise for two has arrived! With the mixed braise you get cutlassfish and mackerel in one go, so there's no agonizing over what to order. They deboned the cutlassfish for us in advance, which I loved haha
The cutlassfish is thick and soft, and the flesh comes off with just a light touch of your chopsticks. It's clean and savory with no fishy taste, and the spicy, zesty sauce soaks right in. The sauce isn't overly harsh but has great depth, so with the fish on top of white rice it was a total rice thief 🤤

They say the braise is made with broth simmered for 3–4 hours and a secret sauce aged 15 days in the fridge. The sauce is spicy yet deep, a dish that makes you think of white rice right away.

The restroom and the owner
The restrooms are inside the restaurant, which was convenient, and they're separate for men and women. The owner said that not only the cutlassfish but he himself is from Jeju, and I burst out laughing ㅋㅋㅋ 😂
Is it worth adding to your Seongsan Ilchulbong and Udo route?
They've served cutlassfish braise and grilled whole cutlassfish for 25 years, so it's a good pick when you're craving Jeju local food. If you're planning a Seongsan Ilchulbong or Udo trip, I'd recommend adding it to your route!
