Dongtan Lake Park gyukatsu restaurant: omurice lunch with Mom, Hurato
In short
Hurato Sikdang Dongtan Lake Commo is a Japanese restaurant serving gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) and omurice on the 2nd floor of Dongtan Lake Commo, near Dongtan Lake Park in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. The writer and her mom walked in with no wait just after weekday lunchtime and ordered gyukatsu, Japanese-style omurice and cold udon, and the sirloin gyukatsu, seared a little longer on a personal brazier, was the standout. Hurato Sikdang is a clean, satisfying Japanese meal after a walk around Dongtan Lake Park, and a definite place to return to.

Today I visited Hurato Sikdang Dongtan Lake Commo, a famous spot near Dongtan Lake Park!
📌 Pro tip ✨ A great stop after a walk in Dongtan Lake Park ✨ Gyukatsu that's better than in Japan itself!
How do you get to Hurato Sikdang Dongtan Lake Commo?
Hurato Sikdang Dongtan Lake Commo is on the 2nd floor of Dongtan Lake Commo. Park near Gate 2 of Dongtan Lake Commo, head up to the 2nd floor, and you'll find it very easily.

The storefront already gives off a calm, quiet atmosphere, and it really felt like being in Japan.

What is the wait like at Hurato Sikdang on weekdays and weekends?
My mom and I went just after weekday lunchtime, and luckily we got in right away with no wait! I hear the wait on weekends is pretty long, so be careful if you're planning to go then!
Every table has a cute little personal brazier. It's set up so you can grill your gyukatsu just how you like it, which looked really convenient.

Hurato Sikdang menu and how to order by phone
At Hurato Sikdang Dongtan Lake Commo, you search the menu and order from your seat on your phone. They say this place is especially famous for its gyukatsu and its soft, fluffy omurice (omelet rice) 🤭

We happened to be really hungry, so we ordered the signature gyukatsu, omurice, and a refreshing cold udon (thick wheat noodles)!
- Gyukatsu
- Japanese-style omurice
- Cold udon
How do Hurato's gyukatsu, omurice and cold udon taste?
✨ Our dishes finally came out one after another! The food at Hurato is served neatly in a tidy Japanese home-cooking (Gajeong) style, and

the mains came with soup, salad and side dishes, all carefully arranged. Just looking at it put me in a good mood 🩷
Japanese-style omurice with demi-glace sauce and soft egg
First up, the Japanese-style omurice, which is adorably fluffy-looking from the get-go!

The one ritual you can never skip when eating omurice! Slicing open the soft egg belly in one smooth stroke is so satisfying.

I poured on the demi-glace sauce that came with it, and it was pleasantly sweet and salty, a perfect match for the tender egg and rice.
Sirloin gyukatsu grilled on a personal brazier (the best dish)

The textbook crispy-outside, juicy-inside gyukatsu! The one I was looking forward to most is made with sirloin (salchisal, the marbled cut) and arrives juicy, cooked medium rare.

Just dipping it in the sauce as served is already mild and tasty, but if you put it on the personal brazier and grill it a little more to your liking... it's absolute heaven. It melts in your mouth the moment it goes in, and even now, as I write this, I want to eat it again 🥹

Cold udon with jumbo shrimp tempura, poached egg and icy broth
🍤 The cold udon came out last, and it was overwhelming from the very first look! A huge jumbo shrimp tempura and a whole poached egg were sitting right on top.

The noodles were so chewy that the texture was amazing, and the broth with little ice flakes floating in it was deep and cooling, a real treat 👍👍 Bite into the crunchy shrimp tempura, then slurp the chewy noodles and cold broth, and the summer heat just disappears.
Verdict: Hurato Sikdang near Dongtan Lake Park
Both my mom and I left really satisfied, so we're definitely coming back, 200% sure! If you're looking for a good place to eat in Dongtan, do give it a try!
