Ara-dong, Jeju drip café: Kenya Lukira and Gesha for two at Gasangsun

In short

Gasangsun Coffee (가상순커피) is a hand-drip coffee café on Inda 9-gil in Ara-dong, Jeju City. The writer and her boyfriend ordered a nutty Kenya Lukira and a bright, acidic Benchmaji Gesha, then watched Gasangsun Coffee brew 50g of beans into just 60–70mL of coffee, dilute and decant it, and serve it in wine glasses for ₩13,000 per hand-drip. The verdict: Gasangsun Coffee's drip was the cleanest, most fragrant coffee she had had lately, with no heavy aftertaste.

What kind of café is Gasangsun Coffee in Ara-dong, Jeju?

Gasangsun Coffee (가상순커피) is a drip coffee café in Ara-dong, Jeju City, and I hear it was picked as a coffee hotspot in the 2026 Columbus Guide. I came to Jeju this week to rest, and with so many pretty, delicious cafés here, I wanted something special to drink.

Gasangsun is famous as an Ara-dong coffee spot, and I was curious because they have a wide range of beans and brew their drip coffee in a special way. Let me start with the conclusion: it was the cleanest coffee I've had in a long while, with a lovely aroma and a clean aftertaste too!

Gasangsun has small finger foods to go with your coffee, and they sell drip bags and beans separately too.

The place is spacious, so I think it would be good for coming in a group too.

The owner is seriously devoted to coffee, so there are coffee-related items all around the café. If you order beans, they even prepare them on the spot from beans stored in vacuum!

Kenya Lukira or Benchmaji Gesha: which bean to pick?

At Gasangsun we ordered two hand-drip coffees. My boyfriend likes nutty, rich flavors, so he had the Kenya Lukira, and I like coffee with acidity and fruity notes, so I had the Benchmaji Gesha!

  • Kenya Lukira: roasted longer than the Benchmaji Gesha, so it's the more nutty, rich bean, they said.
  • Benchmaji Gesha: the lightest bean, with a bit of acidity!

Gasangsun's drip method: only 60–70mL from 50g of beans

The owner doesn't use a scale and adjusts the drip every day depending on the condition of the beans (a true coffee master!). What makes Gasangsun special is that they use a lot of beans and very little water, pulling out only the good flavors and cutting the negative ones, so the nice aroma stays and negatives like caffeine are kept to a minimum!

I understand other cafés use about 20g of beans, but Gasangsun uses 50g and extracts only 60–70mL of coffee. They also keep the swirling to a minimum when dripping, so the extraction is more delicate and less is pulled out, which cuts down the caffeine, the owner told us.

He even sets the temperature exactly with a thermometer and brews the coffee with great care!

First pour of coffee and the later pour that gets discarded

Only the first pour is used, then decanted into a wine glass

After brewing, Gasangsun uses only the first amount that comes out, and the coffee that drips later gets thrown away! The coffee in the photo on the right is all going to be discarded... The coffee brewed this way is decanted once so the foam traps the dust, finishing it as a concentrate in top condition.

Then they dilute that first amount to finish the coffee. The diluted coffee is decanted lightly once more for the best aroma. The reason they serve it in a wine glass is to gather the aroma well, they said!

How did the drip coffee at Gasangsun taste?

And here is the finished Gasangsun drip coffee! As careful as the method is, the coffee was incredibly smooth and delicious, and there was no dryness left in the mouth after swallowing, so it felt so clean.

The coffee was so smoothly delicious that I got curious about the other beans, so I bought two more drip bags on my way out haha. Whether it tastes the same when I brew it myself... I have no idea though!

How does the coffee omakase at Gasangsun work?

Gasangsun also has a coffee omakase (chef's-choice tasting) menu, where the same beans are brewed and sorted by brewing time so you can taste the differences, they told us! The owner has a real philosophy about coffee and is so sincere about it that I want to try the omakase next time.

It was a really good experience. If you love coffee, I think you should definitely stop by Gasangsun when you come to Jeju! I'd like to come back the next time I'm in Jeju too. This time I visited as a sponsored reviewer, but next time I'll probably come back and pay for it with my own money.
