Gangnam Station dakgalbi for two with no add-ons: Dakgalbijeon

My friend and I were picking a place to meet, and we were craving dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), so here's where we ended up! I had cheese dakgalbi and steamed egg at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch (닭갈비전 강남점), a great-value spot near Gangnam Station.

How to get to Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch, and where to park

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch is on the 2nd floor of Gangnam Deoville. From Gangnam Station Exit 10, go straight until you reach the Musinsa Store, turn inside there, and walk a little to the right. It's close to both Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station, and I got off at Gangnam Station.

The building's basement garage gives you 1 hour of free parking, and after that it's ₩1,000 per 10 minutes. Free parking is hard to find around here, so drivers, take note!

Finding the Gangnam Deoville entrance

This is the exterior of Gangnam Deoville, where the restaurant is. You can see the Dakgalbijeon sign on the 2nd floor, and the stairs on the left lead straight up to the entrance.

Inside Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch: atmosphere, reservations and dogs

Groups of 4 or more can reserve through Naver, and there's a discount coupon if you order to match your head count, so booking ahead seems like a good idea. I went during the day, when sunlight came in through the big windows and it felt warm; in the evening it looks like a nice place for a drink.

Small dogs are also allowed, so keep it in mind if you're looking for a pet-friendly restaurant near Gangnam Station!

What's on the menu at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch?

The dakgalbi comes as plain or cheese, and there were plenty of sides too: perilla leaf potato pancake, squid kimchi pancake, squid and chive pancake, fish cake soup, fish roe steamed egg, bibim makguksu (spicy cold buckwheat noodles) and more. Pro tip: grab the 1+1 add-on coupon on Naver Place!

There were also good-value set menus pairing dakgalbi with pancakes, plus a pancake set for people coming for a second round, so it looks good both for a meal and for drinks.

Is cheese dakgalbi for 2 enough without add-ons?

We ordered 2 servings of cheese dakgalbi and fish roe steamed egg as a side. I'll show you each dish below!

The cheese dakgalbi arrives already cooked, and the staff told us we could eat it as soon as the cheese melts. We weren't very hungry, so we ordered just the basics with no add-ons, and the amount of chicken was still really generous.

The sauce was clean and savory, the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for more. For reference, the spice level is something anyone can handle. The chicken was moist and tender with no gamey smell, and the nutty cheese made it even richer. Wrapping it in the pickled radish (ssambu) that comes alongside gave it a tangy, fresh bite.

Free wheat rice cakes for tables of women

Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch was running 3 events, and if you read the last line, women's tables get wheat rice cakes (밀떡) added as a freebie!

The free rice cakes had a lovely chewy texture and the sauce had soaked in well, so it was fun alternating between them and the cheese dakgalbi.

How is Dakgalbijeon's flying fish roe steamed egg?

The fish roe steamed egg we ordered as a side came out generously in a huge earthenware pot. They drizzled sesame oil over the soft, fluffy egg, so a nutty aroma wafted up even before we dug in.

It was as moist and soft as it looked, and the roe popping here and there added a fun texture ☺️

How much did dakgalbi for two cost?

We finished with a soft drink :) Two servings of cheese dakgalbi, fish roe steamed egg and a soft drink came to just over ₩40,000 for the two of us, which is great value.

The dishes at Dakgalbijeon Gangnam Branch were clean-tasting and delicious, so it should make a good meal if you want a filling, good-value place near Gangnam Station. With parking and reservations available, it's also worth considering for a get-together!
