Cheongdam hair salon short men's partial magic + down perm: Beorn

With men's short hair, the length is so short that even a small change can completely shift the whole look. And there are sooo many men's hairstyles, right?!?! Down perm, iron perm, partial magic, regent, crop cut, side part, shadow perm, dandy cut, swallow perm, two-block and on and on~~!

This time I went to Beorn Hair Cheongdam (비오른헤어), a hair salon in Cheongdam-dong, planning the usual iron perm. To give you the ending first: after a careful consultation with the head stylist, the plan changed^^ Instead of the perm we'd had in mind, we did partial magic and a down perm, and we loved the result! My husband is totally satisfied!!!

The style came out much younger and sharper than before, so we were very happy!! Partial magic was new to me and felt a little unfamiliar, but seeing the finished look, it seemed like the better fit for his current length. The best!

Men's hair is shorter than women's, so changing the style isn't as easy as you'd think. With short men's hair especially, the top length and the volume at the sides change the whole impression, so the choice of treatment really matters.

He'd always had an iron perm, so I went in assuming we'd do a perm again. But talking with the stylist changed my mind a little.

Partial magic, on the other hand, can be done just on the parts you want rather than the whole head. With the top not long enough, as it was this time, the stylist recommended tidying up while keeping the current shape of the hair rather than forcing in curls!!

Why pair partial magic with a down perm

Adding a down perm presses down the parts that tend to puff up, like the sides, which makes it perfect!!!!! With short men's hair, puffy sides can make the head look bigger or the style look heavy, so I recommend it! The stylist said doing partial magic and a down perm together helps balance the top and the sides!

Partial magic process and before/after comparison

At Beorn Hair Cheongdam, my husband's hair went in this order: shampoo → cut → down perm, partial magic and heat treatment → straightening with the flat iron → shampoo → finishing cut. The most satisfying part of this Cheongdam-dong visit was the change in style before and after. He's always had iron perms, so he was used to the volume and curl a perm gives, but this different vibe really made his look come alive! In the photo below he's just had a shampoo, and the hair on top is clearly short!
