Danyang bakery garlic bread for two families at a pension: Danppang

A great takeout find at Danyang's Gugyeong Market, perfect as a pension snack!! I brought back the 4-flavor garlic bread set from Danppang Bakery (단빵제빵소).

Where is Danppang Bakery in Danyang Gugyeong Market?

Danppang Bakery is a garlic bread shop inside Danyang Gugyeong Market, facing the famous chicken gangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken) shop. On a Danyang trip, the market is almost as much of a must-see as the sights. Wandering around and checking out the local food is half the fun.

I stopped at Danppang Bakery, a popular pick among the market's best eats, and took Danyang garlic bread to go. It faces that famous chicken gangjeong shop too, so it's easy to fit into your route :)

Danyang means garlic, the healthy kind, right? The market has so many garlic foods that I couldn't decide what to get. My husband asked, "Should we buy fresh garlic too?" but peeling spicy garlic felt like way too much, so I coolly passed!

For this trip I was looking for a snack that my friend's kids and the adults could all eat together, and I settled on Danppang Bakery's garlic bread!

How long is the wait at Danppang Bakery on a Sunday morning?

I went on a Sunday morning and waited about 30 minutes. When I got to the front, the tempting bread and the nutty smell were so good, smells great! The line is, um... something to brace yourself for.

We decided to pack up snacks from the market and eat them leisurely at the pension. The neat box packaging made it easy to carry. It's been on TV a lot, too.

Look at those stacked-up boxes, huge, right? I guess it's even more famous because they age the black garlic themselves to make the bread ingredients.

What's in Danppang Bakery's 4-flavor garlic bread set, and how much is it?

What I chose at Danppang Bakery was the 4-flavor set with cream, black garlic cream cheese, sweet potato, and baguette. One box is ₩14,000, which is cheaper than buying the pieces one by one.

What's special about Danyang garlic? It's said to be the original six-clove garlic, sweeter and richer in flavor than regular garlic, with lots of allicin.

Since several of us would be eating, I got two sets. It isn't one flavor only; you get to try all four, so everyone can eat to their taste :)

There are soft breads that kids know well and nobody dislikes, like cream and sweet potato, plus a black garlic cream cheese bread that feels truly Danyang, and a baguette that's good for sharing.

The garlic bread is quite big, but it's scored, so it's fine for sharing one slice of each kind. It tears apart easily by hand, too.

After splashing around in Dairan Valley (다리안계곡) and heading back to the pension, the elementary school kids and the adults were all hungry in the afternoon~ Happy Danppang snack time :)

Best of all, the kids ate the garlic bread really well, which made me proud as their auntie! It's not a snack only kids like, either. The adults ate it with coffee, so I'm glad I brought two sets!

We were all hungry after the water play, so it was perfect~ We ate in the pension's front yard, and the pension owner passing by said, "Nice, you picked up a snack from the famous bakery!" so I gave them a piece, hahaha

Taking a break on the trip with a cold iced Americano and Danyang garlic bread, I can't imagine anything better.

Happiness must not be a big thing. A first grader said while eating the garlic bread, "Ahh... I'm so happy~~~" :)

All the adults laughed so hard, hahaha. After playing in the water and eating tasty bread, the kid must have been really happy. I'd say this Danppang snack was a total success.

Is Danppang Bakery's garlic bread a good snack for a Danyang family trip?

With four flavors in one box, the 4-flavor set is also a good pick if you can't decide which flavor to get.

It's an easy snack to bring on a family trip with kids and adults. Bread prices are high these days, so ₩14,000 a box seems fair for tourist-spot prices!

If you want a snack on your Danyang trip that has local character and that nobody dislikes, Danppang Bakery in the market seems like a good choice. I think I eat it every time I come to Danyang.

It's great to take away while browsing the market, and to share with family at a pension or lodging. We ate it all at the pension because it was so good, but I think you could also take it home and reheat it in an air fryer or oven!
