Where is Hyeondae Memil, and what about hours and parking?
Hyeondae Memil (현대메밀) is a buckwheat restaurant at 29-1 Namchun-ro 5beon-gil, Chuncheon, Gangwon. It is open 11:00–20:30 with a break from 15:00 to 17:00. There is no closing day, and no dedicated parking lot, so you park on the roadside in front of the restaurant.
I've posted about Hyeondae Memil before. It's honestly my absolute go-back-again spot!! haha It's near Namchuncheon Station, so it's great for visitors to Chuncheon, and since it's on a side street, parking is easier than you'd think, which makes it good for locals too. So I came dashing over to recommend it one more time..★
What are the atmosphere and seating like at Hyeondae Memil?
Hyeondae Memil is a restaurant made from a converted house, so the exterior (?) alone already has such good vibes...>0<
The inside matches the outside, with a full old-time feel that makes it even more endearing 〰️🤎 There are solo seats at the counter and tables for 2 to 4, so it's good for eating alone and also for friends, couples and families. Hyeondae Memil in Chuncheon is great!!
Look at the thoughtfulness, they even prepared hair ties~~ 🫶🏻

The mala buckwheat noodles (₩11,600) at Hyeondae Memil aren't just mala in looks; the broth has a quite strong mala flavor. It's my must-order winning dish whenever I come to Hyeondae Memil!!!!! 🍜🤎
I'm a pretty famous mala maniac, and the mala noodles here are seriously mala-ish (?). What do I mean!!!!!! The broth has such a strong mala flavor that fellow mala maniacs will definitely get hit right in their taste buds!!♥

The mala buckwheat noodles are generously loaded with the ingredients you know from malatang (spicy mala soup): napa cabbage, meat, bean sprouts, bok choy and more. With vegetables and meat all in there, it's a perfect one-bowl meal!!! 💗💗💗
+ This kimchi, kind of geotjeori (fresh, lightly seasoned kimchi) style, is sooo good.. It won over even me, who doesn't like geotjeori, a true noodle thief 😎 hahahahahaha
How does the buckwheat jang sujebi at Hyeondae Memil taste?
The buckwheat jang sujebi (₩11,600) at Hyeondae Memil is the jang kalguksu (soybean-paste-based knife-cut noodle soup) ordered with sujebi instead, and it has a rich, thick, savory broth. One noodle dish plus one sujebi, can't resist that combo!!
The jang sujebi has that familiar slightly thick, deep soybean-paste flavor!! Hyeondae Memil really nails the charm of jang kalguksu, with its rich paste taste and sticky, thick broth. Their jang kalguk! No wait, jang su(jebi)! hahahahahaha
And it's packed with ingredients beyond the sujebi, so what can I say about the taste, you know ㅠㅠ
How was the truffle potato pancake, ordered for the first time?
The truffle potato pancake (₩16,600) at Hyeondae Memil isn't a regular potato pancake but one made with shredded potato, so the crispness was something else. The potato pancake is Hyeondae Memil's hottest menu item!! Honestly, I always ate the suyuk (boiled pork) before, and this time I tried the potato pancake for the first time~~🥔🤎
And what's this, it's so good.....ㅠㅠㅠ It's not just a potato pancake but a "shredded potato" pancake, so the crispness is next level
Pizza? Why eat that?? 🤔💭❔ Maybe I'm a girl who loves potato pancake more than pizza.. Super delicious. The truffle potato pancake is totally my taste. From now on I'll always order the potato pancake..★

Right next to the entrance of Hyeondae Memil, they have mint candy and mouthwash ready. Such a thoughtful Hyeondae Memil ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ (I don't know the owner at all, by the way) but since I come here often, I wanted to share even this little detail...♡
