Weekend day-drinking Korean BBQ in Eungam: handmade pork rind, Yukjjip

Yukjjip (육쯥) Eungam is an aged-pork Korean BBQ restaurant in front of Bulgwangcheon Stream at Exit 4 of Eungam Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul, where staff grill the meat and spacious seating fills two floors. The writer and a friend started day drinking at Yukjjip Eungam around 2:30 pm on a weekend with the 600g mixed platter (₩54,600). They then added doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), 180g of whole pork belly and handmade pork rind, dropping plans for a third stop and finishing the day at Yukjjip. Verdict: thanks to the seasoned salted shrimp dip and the grilling service, Yukjjip Eungam is an easy Korean BBQ spot for a long, relaxed meal.

Chilly-night Korean BBQ near Hapjeong Station, à la carte pork: Ijjok

Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal (이쪽 김치삼겹살) is a Korean BBQ restaurant specialising in fresh pork belly and grilled kimchi, on basement level 1 of Dongmak-ro 3-gil in Seogyo-dong, near Hapjeong Station in Seoul. On a chilly weeknight after work, feeling under the weather, the writer took her husband on a date. To save room for a second round, she skipped the set menus and ordered à la carte: 2 portions of pork belly, 1 of pork neck, steamed egg and fried rice. With the owner grilling the meat and kimchi and a spicy bean sprout salad on the side, the couple finished 2 bottles of soju, and Ijjok Kimchi Samgyeopsal's grilling service, friendly staff and tasty sides made the workday's fatigue fade.

Chewy collagen-skin jokbal with somaek in Yeonsinnae: Gwihanjokbal

Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae is a jokbal (braised pig's trotters) and bossam (boiled pork) restaurant at the start of Yeonsinnae Rodeo Street in Eunpyeong, Seoul. On a weekday evening, two jokbal fans ordered a medium Gwihan Jokbal (41,000 won) and makguksu (chilled buckwheat noodles) with somaek (soju mixed with beer); the skin was large and chewy, and the meat was tender with no gamey smell. If you love collagen-rich skin, the Gwihan Jokbal with a side of makguksu at Gwihanjokbal Yeonsinnae is a combination worth ordering.

Ganghwa duck restaurant for Chuseok lunch with parents: Deok Ori

Deok Ori Jumulleok Ganghwa Main Branch is a duck jumulleok (spicy marinated duck) and duck roast restaurant on Manisan-ro in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa, Incheon, close to Manisan, Jeondeungsa, Dongmak Beach and Ganghwa Luge. A family of 4 had lunch at Deok Ori Jumulleok with their parents on the last weekend of the Chuseok holiday: the briquette pre-grilled duck was clean-tasting with no gamey smell, 2 servings weren't enough, so they added 2 servings of duck jumulleok and finished with fried rice. Deok Ori Jumulleok is a good duck restaurant to bring your parents to on a Ganghwa trip.
