Busan cake shop: melon cream mini for my own birthday, Sijeunikeu

I was wondering what to have as my birthday cake this year, and I finally tried the cakes from Sijeunikeu (시즈니크) at Centum City, the ones I'd been eyeing for ages 🎂 The shop is in the basement food hall of Shinsegae Department Store Centum City, and every time I walked past, the cakes piled with fruit looked so pretty that I always wanted to try one.

This time I chose the melon milk fresh cream cake, and it looked lovely and tasted great, so it was a perfect pick for my birthday 🍈💚 I received a discount, but part of it I paid for myself!

Where is Sijeunikeu in Shinsegae Centum City?

Sijeunikeu is in the dessert corner of the basement 1 food hall, in front of the Starbucks. It was also easy to drop by while shopping.

The showcase is full of high-quality cakes, so I think most of you have probably noticed it at least once.

Sijeunikeu's signature menu and what makes its cakes different

Sijeunikeu's signature is the "Nongjang Wareureu" (농장 와르르, Farm Wareureu, roughly "fruit tumbling down") series. Seasonal fresh fruit and an overflowing look are said to make special days even more unique. Here is what the shop says sets it apart.

How much are the cakes at Sijeunikeu Centum?

The day I visited, the Mango Top Cake (mini) at ₩39,000 and the Melon Milk Fresh Cream (mini) at ₩36,000 caught my eye most. Both are loaded with fruit, so the looks totally hit my taste, haha. If you're looking for a cake near Senteomsiti Station, I think you'll like it.

The Wareureu cakes were already sold out, which was a shame.. I'd been looking forward to them 😭; There were mini mango and melon cakes, and the mango one apparently has a whole 3 mangoes in it.

I went back another day and saw the Farm Wareureu cakes

The Farm Wareureu cakes were ₩60,000 for both mango and melon. This wasn't the day I bought my cake; I had another reason to stop by Shinsegae Centum City on a different day, so I dropped into Sijeunikeu again, and the Wareureu cakes were there!

It's not cheap, but considering the size of the cake and the amount of fruit, I could understand the price. If it had been there on my birthday, I'd have taken this one home.

Why I chose the mini melon milk fresh cream, and the in-store holding

🍈 Sijeunikeu Melon Milk Fresh Cream Cake (mini)

At Sijeunikeu you can pay and leave the cake at the store to pick up later. I agonized between melon and mango, took my boyfriend's opinion into account too, and went with melon! We were having dinner before heading home, so I asked if I could just pay and collect it later, and they said to come by 8 p.m. and kept it for me, haha.

Since it's summer and cream can spoil, I'd recommend adding an insulated cooler bag. I live close by, so I didn't bother.

How did the Sijeunikeu melon fresh cream cake taste?

The Sijeunikeu melon milk fresh cream cake is full of big pieces of melon from the outside to the cross-section, and the animal-based fresh cream wasn't greasy at all. At home I chilled it in the fridge a little, then blew out the candles and ate it, and the look of all that melon piled on top is the best 💗

I like melon and eat it often, and this year I've already had Seongsimdang's whole melon cake and now Sijeunikeu's melon milk fresh cream cake, so I feel like I'm eating my fill of melon. So happy.

It's not just the outside: like a proper fresh fruit cake, big pieces of melon fill it from the cross-section to the inside. The cream is 100% animal-based so it isn't greasy, and it's milky and rich, matching the sponge well and pairing perfectly with the sweet melon 💖

Was the mini size enough?

The Sijeunikeu mini was just right split over 2–3 sittings. I worried it might be small, but a cake that's too big often ends up forgotten in the fridge, so I actually liked the size.

Would I recommend Sijeunikeu for a birthday cake in Busan?

I'd only ever looked at the cakes near Senteomsiti Station, and finally trying Sijeunikeu's fresh fruit cake for my birthday was so delicious that I loved it. If you're looking for a birthday cake or fresh fruit cake in Busan, I recommend Sijeunikeu at Shinsegae Centum City. If you like cakes piled with fruit like melon or mango, I think you'll like it, and next time I'm definitely trying the signature Wareureu cake 🍈🍰
