Today I'm introducing a place I've gone to again and again~~>,< You can guess why I'm writing about a place I've already been, right?? It's SO good that I'm posting about it one more time~>,<

Why Yuil Jangeo for a restorative eel meal in Gwangsan?

Yuil Jangeo (유일장어) is an eel grill restaurant on Donggok-ro in Gwangsan, Gwangju, and it's the place that comes to mind instead of samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) or goat soup when I'm thinking about a stamina meal. What food do you think of when you want a health boost??? Samgyetang? Goat soup? Nope nope~~ It's eel! There may be people who've never heard of Yuil Jangeo, but there's no one who's been only once~^^

Parking and atmosphere at Yuil Jangeo

Yuil Jangeo has a roomy private parking lot, so no parking worries, nonono!! It opened this January, so here's its shiny, brand-new exterior~~haha

How do you pick your eel at Yuil Jangeo?

They say Yuil Jangeo ages its eel in an aging fridge for deeper flavor before selling it to customers.

Self-serve eel fridge inside the shop

You pick your eel yourself from the eel fridge inside the shop, which made me trust the place even more. Take as much as you'll eat, and the staff handle everything else! All we have to do is choose our eel. The servings are clearly marked so it's easy to tell, and we chose from the 2-serving line~~

Packaged eel labeled with servings and price

Can you see the price..?? The amount is quite generous, and I was touched by the kind price~ And then there's Yuil Jangeo's thoughtful touch: the self zone!

Overview of Yuil Jangeo's self zone

Self bars and basic table setting at Yuil Jangeo

Yuil Jangeo has 2 self bars~! Take whatever you like^^ And just so you know, the kimchi and nurungji (scorched rice) combo is crazy.. The kimchi tastes the real deal~!

Fresh vegetables and a variety of dipping sauces! Take as much as you'll eat, however you like.

Yuil Jangeo's basic table setting with cucumber cold soup

This is the basic table setting at Yuil Jangeo. For any side dishes you want more of, head to the refill zone, go go!! And one more thing! That cucumber cold soup is a hidden gem~~ It's sweet and sour, so when the eel starts to feel heavy, a spoonful of that broth works better than any digestive aid!!!

What's on the menu at Yuil Jangeo besides grilled eel?

Besides grilled eel, Yuil Jangeo has eel soup, mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth), bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), seasoned eel, and even eel patties (tteokgalbi), haha

Notice for the review event and takeout discount

Yuil Jangeo review event, takeout discount and courier delivery

Yuil Jangeo has a review event and a takeout discount event~ The review event gives you a chance to try the eel patty. No reason not to do it, right??? And they even do courier delivery, so when you're eating eel and thinking of precious family far away, just send a box right off~!!!

Do you grill the eel yourself at Yuil Jangeo?

Yuil Jangeo doesn't grill the eel for you, so customers grill it themselves. There's an eel grilling tip sheet in the shop, so I took a photo of it; I think it'll help if you check it before you grill. LOL We also followed the tips, diligently standing the eel on its side so it wouldn't burn, haha

Eel standing on its side over charcoal

This is the eel I picked earlier~~ Maybe because I chose it with my own hands, it looks even tastier and fresher~~LOL And! The charcoal was really solid, so I got the feeling they use good charcoal!

How does Yuil Jangeo's eel taste, and will kids eat it?

The eel at Yuil Jangeo has none of that typical fishy smell and is crispy outside and moist inside, so my son really ate it well. Here's a whole collection of eel wraps my husband grilled so nicely, haha, so take a moment to admire~ With so many accompaniments, I could eat it in all kinds of ways without getting tired of it at all and enjoyed that nutty, clean flavor, happy the whole meal T_T So Yuil Jangeo is absolutely worthy of a revisit!!

Dessert coffee corner at Yuil Jangeo

Before you leave, grab some dessert too~~haha Sweet coffee vs. strong black coffee, whichever you like~~haha

Verdict: a Gwangsan neighborhood eel restaurant worth the revisit

Yuil Jangeo is a place I've gone to again and again and have certified as our neighborhood eel spot, and I really want to recommend it! The price is kind and the taste rivals high-end eel restaurants, so I think everyone from grown-ups to little kids can enjoy it~~ Come get both flavor and price in one go~~♥
