Gwangjin ramen restaurant with rich Jin Ramen: Ramen Truck

Today I visited Ramen Truck, a great ramen spot around Konkuk University~

A red-brick exterior and casual interior

This is what the exterior looks like~ The large “RAMEN TRUCK” sign on the red-brick building made it easy to spot even from a distance. Its glass frontage lets you see straight into the restaurant, and there’s a menu board at the entrance, so you can quickly check the dishes and prices before going in. With the red ramen noren (shop curtain), it also had that distinct Japanese ramen-shop vibe!

Inside, it was clean and casual, with red as the accent color! There were both counter seats and regular tables, so it looked good for anything from dining alone to coming with a group~ The open kitchen lets you watch the ramen being made, while ramen photos and little pieces of Ramen Truck’s history on the walls gave me something fun to look at too 😆

Ordering Jin Ramen, Shin Ramen, and side dishes

So many menu options, right?? There were lots of ramen varieties, so I spent ages deciding 🤣 We ordered Shin Ramen, Jin Ramen, handmade karaage (Japanese fried chicken), and yaki gyoza (pan-fried dumplings)~~

Jin Ramen with an intensely rich broth

True to its name, Jin Ramen really delivered on rich broth! They say it is about twice as concentrated as a regular broth, and after one sip, I could definitely tell it was fuller-bodied and deeper 😆 The nutty, rich broth clung nicely to the noodles, and the generous chashu and crisp bean sprouts made a great combination. The chashu was especially thick, making the bowl feel really filling!!

Spicy, warming Shin Ramen

If you enjoy spicy ramen, I recommend the Shin Ramen too! The broth looks fiery red, so it seems like it would be extremely hot, but it was more warming and pleasantly spicy than aggressively so~ It kept the flavor of that rich broth while adding a kick, and I found myself spooning up more and more of it!! It also cuts through any heaviness, so I think it would suit anyone who loves a spicy, warming broth 😆

Crisp and juicy handmade karaage

I ordered the karaage too because it is handmade!! There was none of that chicken smell at all, and it was crisp outside and juicy inside, which was more satisfying than I expected ☺️ One bite gives you a clear contrast between the crunchy fried coating and the tender, moist chicken. It was the perfect side when ramen alone felt just a little incomplete~

Yaki gyoza with a wide crisp skirt

The yaki gyoza are seared crisp on the bottom, and the first thing that caught my eye was the thin, crunchy skirt spreading widely around the dumplings. It was fun to crack into that crispy wing first, while the dumplings themselves were golden outside and moist inside, with a lovely mix of textures!!

When you’re craving ramen around Konkuk University

Ramen Truck is somewhere I often visit whenever I’m craving ramen!! Even after visiting several times, it has stayed consistently delicious, so I naturally keep returning~ One bowl of ramen is filling on its own, and the prices are not burdensome, making it a great-value place for a meal 😆

If you love a rich broth, go for Jin Ramen; if you prefer something warming and spicy, choose Shin Ramen according to your taste~ (I recommend the Shin Ramen more!!) Add karaage or yaki gyoza and it becomes an even more filling meal!! More than just reasonably priced, the ramen itself is delicious enough to bring me back! I recommend it as an easy, no-pressure place to visit when you’re craving ramen around Konkuk University!!!
