Gwangjin café for snowflake bingsu and matcha latte: Wonz Coffee

In short

Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch is a local café in Gwangjin, Seoul, between Children's Grand Park and Guui-dong. I shared snowflake red bean bingsu for 2 at 13,000 won and an organic matcha latte for 6,000 won. Verdict: a refreshing, generously sized dessert stop for two.

I was near Children's Grand Park, and it was so hot that I was desperately craving something icy, haha. Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch happened to be nearby, so I went in for snowflake bingsu.

I thought it might just be a neighborhood café, but once I stepped inside, it was clearly a place that takes coffee seriously—and the snowflake bingsu I had that day was better than expected too, haha.

Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch sits between Children's Grand Park and Guui-dong. The area is a mix of homes and small businesses, but the black exterior with large ONES COFFEE lettering makes it easy to spot, haha.

The café information even introduced the barista's experience as a national representative. It also explained how much care goes into the beans and roasting for each cup, so I thought coffee lovers would enjoy visiting too, haha.

A larger, more distinctive interior than expected

Once inside, the café felt much bigger than it looked from outside. It is decorated mainly in white and black, with lots of plants along one side, so it did not feel stark, haha.

There were all kinds of seats, from large tables to tables for two and window seats, so it looked good whether you came alone for coffee or with a group. The photos and coffee posters on one wall were quite memorable too, haha. Rather than feeling like a standardized chain café, it had the atmosphere of a local café with plenty to look around at.

There were also displays of coffee beans, drip bags, and products that looked like Dutch coffee inside, haha.

We ordered at the kiosk. The total was ₩19,000, but with a ₩1,000 discount applied that day, we actually paid ₩18,000, haha. Wonz Coffee had quite a wide range of coffee drinks too, but I was already set on snowflake bingsu that day, so I chose matcha latte instead, haha.

Snowflake red bean bingsu piled up like a mountain

After a short wait, the snowflake bingsu arrived, and it looked fantastic right away. It was literally piled up like a little snowy mountain, haha. There are lots of bingsu these days topped with elaborate fruit and all sorts of extras, but I actually liked that this pure white snowflake bingsu came with red beans, rice cakes, and injeolmi powder separately. It felt clean and simple.

At first, I scooped up the bingsu plain, without adding anything. The flakes were incredibly fine and melted away in my mouth right away, haha. Rather than having a rough, crunchy ice texture, it was closer to soft, moist milk shaved ice, so I kept reaching for more.

Since the red beans came separately, I could add a little at a time instead of mixing everything in from the start. With the nutty injeolmi powder, the familiar red bean bingsu flavor really came alive, and the chewy rice cakes kept the texture interesting too, haha. I especially liked that it was not the kind of bingsu that becomes overly sweet as it melts, so it stayed relatively clean-tasting until the end. There was a generous amount for two people to share as dessert, haha.

The matcha latte that went surprisingly well with bingsu

I had the organic matcha latte iced. Its deep green color suggested there would be a noticeable matcha flavor, and when I tried it, it was not just a drink dominated by sweet milk.

Matcha's distinctive gently bitter aroma lingered, while the milk softened it nicely, making it a good drink to have with the bingsu, haha. Taking a bite of bingsu and then a sip of matcha latte, I found the pairing worked much better than I expected, haha.

When you're craving bingsu after Children's Grand Park

I expected Wonz Coffee Children's Grand Park Main Branch to be a space focused only on coffee, but its snowflake bingsu was very satisfying too. With its spacious layout and distinctive interior, it was a nice place to sit and relax rather than just grab a drink and leave, haha.

In particular, the ₩13,000 snowflake bingsu is an easy price for two people to share, so I think I would order it again when I want a cool dessert after visiting Children's Grand Park, haha. Next time, since this is a café with a barista who has national representative experience, I would like to choose some beans and properly try the coffee too.
