Halls Gimbap Main Branch (홀스김밥본점) is a 3-minute walk from Gyodae Station, at 90 Seochojungang-ro 22-gil, Seocho-gu, Seoul, 1st floor, Unit 101. It's open 08:00–20:00 on weekdays (break time 15:00–16:00) and 08:00–15:00 on Saturdays, and closed every Sunday.

Takeout review: gimbap + dakgangjeong set and one extra roll

I ordered the gimbap + chicken set and one extra roll to go! The second I opened the box, the smell was insane. The chicken is great, but the gimbap looked like fancy gimbap and so appetizing. The scallion tuna roll has thin rice and is crammed with scallion and tuna, so the filling flavor really comes through.

And the chicken is so crispy and tender, it tastes like real handmade dakgangjeong. They're good at gimbap and good at chicken. It was so tasty I wanted to order just the chicken. The Cheongyang chili (spicy green chili) inside is the kicker! It isn't greasy, and the crunch and heat bring out the flavor even more.

The set: half Jindo scallion tuna, half Halls gimbap

I ordered the set's rolls half tuna, half Halls gimbap, and eating them half-and-half meant I never got tired of them and finished everything. I'm a small eater, but this day two rolls would honestly have been doable!! The Halls gimbap is filled with egg, fish cake, cucumber, pickled radish and carrot, and the fish cake and egg are so soft, savory and delicious that the umami was top notch.

For the other roll I got half egg gimbap, half Halls gimbap. The egg gimbap is a best seller for a reason: fluffy, soft egg plus cheese, so it's savory, soft, everything! It's a really protein-packed roll, so I think you could eat it on a diet without worrying.

Which gimbap at Halls Gimbap was the best?

Still, my pick is the tuna gimbap! Tuna gimbap can turn dry if it's done badly, but this one isn't dry at all, the scallion inside is crunchy and adds texture, and every ingredient was so good that I cleared a whole roll haha

And the most basic roll, the Halls gimbap, has seasoned fish cake, and that seasoned fish cake is really good. The egg and other ingredients were fresh too, which made it even better.

How does the Halls Gimbap dakgangjeong taste?

Oh, and the best part, as a chicken maniac: my favorite was the Halls chicken, which is sweet and spicy. The chicken thigh inside is super tender and crispy, this is simply a chicken place haha

The thigh meat is super tender, and it's really crispy if you eat it right after frying, but I liked it even more after some time had passed. It was so good I'd happily eat the chicken alone. Halls Gimbap is a great solo-meal spot near Gyodae Station.

Overall, from the set to the gimbap lineup, it's so good I think it would be great to pack for a picnic. Halls Gimbap Main Branch is my life gimbap! I keep thinking about it, enough that I'd go to Gyodae just to eat it. Honest review done, and I'd return 1000%!
