HEOD Gongdeok

Why I went back to HEOD Gongdeok
I visited HEOD Gongdeok last month and the food and atmosphere were so good that it stuck with me, so this time I went back for an early dinner with my boyfriend. I loved everything I ate last time, so I returned with high expectations, and the food and service were still great. Here's my honest review!

Where is HEOD Gongdeok, and what does it look like?
HEOD Gongdeok sits close to the Gyeongui Line Forest Park walking path, so it's lovely to stroll over. It's near Daeheung Station and Gongdeok Station, so it's easy to reach and a good meeting spot for a Gongdeok or Daeheung brunch.
The exterior is modern but warm in tone, so it catches your eye from far away. The entrance looks clean and neat, so I think it's perfect as a date spot too!
Do you need a reservation at HEOD Gongdeok for weekend dinner?

If you go on a weekend, I recommend booking. We walked in right after the break time ended, and the place was already almost full. It was definitely bustling, it being the weekend. I'd say always reserve before a weekend visit. The tables are spaced fairly well apart, so it's a comfortable layout for couples to talk or friends to get together.

There's a big table in the middle, good for a group of friends, and a bar table that's nice for two.
HEOD Gongdeok Naver reservation perk and anniversary service

If you book through Naver (Korea's main search and booking platform), you get either an Americano or an orange juice. We booked in advance, and when we got to our table, a name card with my name carefully written on it was waiting, which put me in a good mood from the moment we walked in! I really recommend booking ahead~ ☕️
I also heard that if you reserve ahead for an anniversary, they provide a cake and even a Polaroid photo service, so it seems like a great place for an anniversary date on a special day. Next time I want to come back for an anniversary 🥰

We ordered one orange juice and shared it between the two of us, which was just right. A drink is a must with brunch, and I like that there are plenty of options besides coffee.

What two of us ordered for dinner at HEOD Gongdeok
- Scallion pork jowl oil pasta ₩19,800
- Pork jowl miso pasta ₩19,800
- Butter French toast ₩12,800
- Orange juice (Naver reservation perk)

We sat down and ordered a full spread: orange juice, butter French toast, pork jowl miso pasta and scallion pork jowl oil pasta. We had the French toast set to come out after the meal. Little touches like that show the owner's good sense.

How does the pork jowl miso pasta taste?
HEOD Gongdeok's pork jowl miso pasta (₩19,800) pairs savory pork jowl (pork neck) with a miso-based sauce! The miso sauce tames the greasiness pork jowl can have and leaves it light, so the seasoning was spot on. The sauce soaked into the noodles instead of sliding off, so I never got tired of it. It was a distinctive, clean dish, worthy of a pasta hotspot.

Is the scallion pork jowl oil pasta worth reordering?
I remembered really enjoying HEOD Gongdeok's scallion pork jowl oil pasta (₩19,800) on my earlier visit, so I ordered it again. It's an oil pasta where the fragrant scallion and chewy pork jowl work together. The oil sauce wasn't excessive, the refreshing quality of the scallion came through, and the clean finish was appealing. The noodles are thick with a nice chew, and above all the scallions were cooked until sweet, which goes really well with the pasta.

Butter French toast for dessert at HEOD Gongdeok
The butter French toast (₩12,800), one of HEOD Gongdeok's signature dishes, had egg custard soaked all the way into the thick bread, so it was golden outside and soft and fluffy inside! The butter flavor came through gently, which made it just right as a dessert after the meal. True to a top Gongdeok brunch spot, it felt like brunch done by the book..!

It's twice as good with the homemade whipped cream served alongside! Just what you'd expect from HEOD's signature dish. Sweet + sweet = the best 🤎

HEOD Gongdeok second visit: final verdict
HEOD Gongdeok isn't just about atmosphere; the basics of the food are solid, from the mains to the sides. From the thoughtful reservation service to the clean meal, I was very satisfied overall, and I'll probably come back whenever I'm craving brunch or pasta. It was a revisit, but once again I ate really well! Next time I'll come for an anniversary.
