Euljiro date restaurant: charcoal octopus with wood ear at Pyu

Pyu Euljiro (퓨 PHEW) is a 70-pyeong (about 231 m²) contemporary dining restaurant on Mareunnae-ro in Euljiro 3-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul. On a date, the writer had bisque pasta topped with two shrimp, then ordered the signature charcoal-grilled octopus with romesco and wood ear mushrooms instead of the sold-out Spanish mackerel, both paired with white wine. Pyu Euljiro isn't cheap, but its spacious wood-and-plant interior makes conversation easy, making it a date-night restaurant in Euljiro worth recommending.

For thickly sliced salmon, the sake-don at Jongno Donburi Yeonnam is the one to order.

Daehangno Indian curry à la carte for three, ₩50,000: Meono Kkameona

Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch is an Indian and Nepali restaurant a 5-minute walk from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station in Jongno, Seoul. A family of three skipped the two-person set and ordered à la carte instead — chicken masala, chicken korma, basmati rice, chicken biryani, butter naan and half a tandoori chicken — for about ₩50,000 in total. For three people who want to share several dishes, the à la carte combination at Meono Kkameona beat the set menu.
