BYWAY BAKERS near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Station, found while hunting for a farewell gift

Have you ever tried wakppu salt bread, neighbors? I tasted it for the first time this time, while preparing a gift for a lady (sa-mo-nim, the wife of someone I respect) who is about to move up to Incheon and say goodbye. BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch, famous as a salt bread spot, a stop on the Yeongdeungpo bakery tour, a dessert place near Yeongdeungpo-gu Office and a financier favorite, had delicious wakppu salt bread too.

Wakppu salt bread and 5 financiers: what did I pick?

First up is a photo of the BYWAY BAKERS wakppu salt bread. Cutely, they put something like fruit wrapping paper on top? Since it has fruit in it, they seem to have gone for a real-fruit concept, haha.

For financiers I chose fig, salt, salt, aged yellow cheese and nut. As you'll see later, the price, the taste and the gift wrapping were all neat.

What is the atmosphere like at BYWAY BAKERS Yeongdeungpo Branch?

The moment I opened the door, I was amazed at how popular it is! The shop was already buzzing with 30 to 40 customers. People of all ages were enjoying desserts, and it felt like a friendly, cozy neighborhood gathering spot.

I think this is a large packaging container. This box was cute too.

There were many kinds of bread, including financiers, egg tarts and salt bread.

What impressed me was that, within the spacious shop, about a quarter is set up as a professional bakery kitchen. The bakers were baking bread in real time, and the display kept being filled with freshly baked desserts.

Seats for working alone, and window seats

Seeing the checkout line that never ended, I thought, wow, BYWAY BAKERS is a real Yeongdeungpo hot spot! There were also seats set aside for working on a laptop or studying comfortably, so it looked great for dropping in alone too.

How were the financiers gift-wrapped?

I picked 5 financiers at BYWAY BAKERS and had them gift-wrapped, which cost ₩500 extra. The purpose that day was a dessert gift for the lady leaving for Incheon, so I carefully chose 5 crowd-pleasing financiers with rich, nutty flavor and had them wrapped prettily.

She also has a young child, so hoping they could share a sweet time, I bought 1 extra 'Shine Muscat wakppu salt bread'!

Maybe because they were so busy, they handed over the shopping bag with the handle part unassembled and just rolled up. I unfolded it and put it together myself! With the card it felt even nicer.

It was our last meeting before the farewell, so it felt a bit teary, but with my cheering heart I could carry the desserts down happily.

Is the Shine Muscat wakppu salt bread good frozen?

I ate the Shine Muscat wakppu salt bread after freezing it solid and thawing it slightly, and it was like a premium ice cream dessert. Whoa. The wakppu salt bread that was meant as a gift is with me, you see.

A little twist happened! Because of the gift delivery schedule, it would have sat at room temperature for nearly 12 hours. Worried the fresh Shine Muscat fruit and cream might spoil, I took the wakppu salt bread home, froze it briefly and ended up tasting it myself. I plan to get the child's dessert again when she goes in a month or two.

Shine Muscat wakppu salt bread, frozen then thawed

My honest taste review of the Shine Muscat wakppu salt bread: I froze it solid and thawed it slightly, and what a big surprise! The crust lost a bit of its crispness, but the chilled chocolate and the sherbet-like texture, coolness and freshness of the Shine Muscat came together like a premium ice cream dessert. If someone bought it for me again, I'd freeze it and eat it 1000%. I really enjoyed it!

The lady's reaction to the 5-financier set

She loved the BYWAY BAKERS 5-financier set, said the wrapping was so pretty, and thanked me. Her heart was even lovelier.

Overall verdict

It was a happy visit: in a friendly, lively space I could convey warm sincerity with carefully baked sweets. If you're looking for tasty desserts or a heartfelt gift around Yeongdeungpo, I strongly recommend stopping by BYWAY BAKERS at least once!
