Looking for a different kind of drink in Gwangja, I ended up at Woowoo, a solo-drinking bar.

We went that day just to chat with friends over a drink, but the vibe was a bit different from a typical bar. At first I assumed it was just a place where you sit with your friends and talk among yourselves, but Woowoo turns out to be a space where even people who come alone naturally end up chatting with other guests. So it seemed like a great fit not just for people who like drinking solo, but for anyone who wants to casually talk to new people.

Woowoo is on the 2nd floor of the building, and you see the entrance right as you come up the stairs. There's a sign by the entrance that reads something like "Even if you come alone..." which already gives you a sense of Woowoo's vibe.

The sign is big and eye-catching, so it wasn't hard to find even on a first visit. Follow the stairs up, spot the Woowoo sign, and you're in.

Inside, the lighting is dim and the space is set up bar-style, giving it an overall calm and cozy feel.

Even though it's a bar, it felt less like a loud, rowdy place and more like somewhere you sit at the counter and chat over a drink.

What was especially unusual was that, unlike a typical bar where you just sit wherever, here you reserve your seat through an app.

It's for guests 20 and older, and there's guidance on leaving after staying beyond a certain amount of time. Even if you visit alone, I'd say it's best to go in with a light mindset — just having a casual drink and talking to others — rather than overthinking it.

We went that day just to chat briefly with friends, and it was definitely different from a typical bar I had in mind. Usually when you go to a bar with friends, you only end up talking with the people at your own table, right?

But at Woowoo, it's not just the people at your own table talking to each other — people across the whole space naturally mix, and there were even games you could play.

The content was simple, so it was easy to chat about. Having a set topic was a nice touch too.

Here's what we ordered! Each glass looked different, so they were fun to photograph, and easy to sip slowly while talking. Because the lighting is on the dim side, the glasses catching the light looked especially pretty.

So there are people who come alone and people who come with friends, and the biggest feature seems to be that they can all mix and talk together. If you want to drink solo but don't want to actually be alone, this place fits especially well. On the flip side, if you'd rather quietly drink by yourself in peace, a regular bar might be more comfortable.
