What kind of place is Winners Motel in Sokcho?
Winners Motel is a homey stay in Gyo-dong, Sokcho, run by a family on the same spot for 20 years. It has been around that long, but it was recently renovated, so it felt very clean and pleasant.
Winners Motel is where I stayed on day 2 of my solo 4-night, 5-day Gangwon trip on foot. I went after reading reviews saying the price is below average but the facilities are good, so it's decent value. Lately I think a good-value motel beats a pension (a countryside guesthouse).
Is Winners Motel well located for traveling on foot?
Winners Motel sits right against the Mukgeori food town in downtown Gyo-dong, so there are plenty of good restaurants around. Cheongchoho Lake is a 10-minute walk away and Jungang Market is 5 minutes by car, so access is great. Expo Park and the beach are close too.
Because of that, it was a good place to stay safely as a woman traveling alone on foot.

The 24-hour CU downstairs and food nearby
The 1st floor of Winners Motel has a 24-hour CU convenience store, a microwave, a table and more, which was handy. There's so much to eat around here that you won't go hungry. When you're traveling alone on foot, it's absolutely best to have transport and conveniences near your lodging.
After checking in, I walked all the way to Cheongchoho Lake and on to the beach. The weather has been so nice lately that it felt really fresh. Cheongchoho in particular was my first time there as a sightseeing spot, and it felt really exotic.

Rooms at Winners Motel in Sokcho are divided into event special, standard, deluxe, triple, and twin (A, B or 3-person). All rooms are well soundproofed, each has a big window that lets in light so it doesn't feel stuffy, and the rooms are relatively spacious. Pets are not allowed.

At this price, the value is excellent. It was just the right Sokcho stay for resting comfortably alone on a trip on foot. It was well cleaned, with no smell at all, and pleasant the whole time.
What's in the event special room
The event special room at Winners Motel has one bed, a TV, a fridge, a table, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, a charger, lotion, an electric kettle and bottled water. For Netflix, you can watch by logging in with your own account. I suddenly fell into the drama Trigger and watched until 4 am before falling asleep.
If there are three of you, book the twin 3-person room (2 beds) or the triple (3 beds).
What bathroom amenities does Winners Motel have?
The bathroom at Winners Motel is also very clean. Which rooms have a bathtub is random. A bidet is installed.

After the Cheongchoho walk: my verdict on staying alone
On the way back after eating near the beach, I stopped by Cheongchoho again. It was a weekday, so a quiet stillness hung over it and my mind and body settled. If I hadn't been traveling on foot, I wouldn't have bothered to visit Cheongchoho, so it was an unexpected small joy.
