Boreum Hair Jeju Inje is a hair salon on Donggwang-ro 13-gil near Jeju City Hall in Jeju. The writer, whose stubborn curly hair had grown out after missing a root straightening ("root magic") appointment since moving to Jeju, got root magic plus a hair moisture treatment at Boreum Hair Jeju Inje, and even her swirling bangs came out poker-straight. For root straightening on stubborn curls in Jeju City, Boreum Hair Jeju Inje is a great choice.

Solo hanwoo BBQ in Yeon-dong, Jeju: 200g galbisal at Dolgyeok Hanwoo

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) BBQ restaurant on Nuwemaru Street in Yeon-dong, Jeju, near the Jeju Provincial Government office. For a first beef meal two months after moving to Jeju, the writer ate solo at Dolgyeok Hanwoo, ordering 200g of hanwoo galbisal (boneless short rib) and 100g of hanwoo brisket. The staff-recommended dip of makjjigi sauce, seed mustard and wasabi and the complimentary beef seaweed soup both impressed. Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a friendly beef spot in Yeon-dong that warmly welcomes solo diners.

Seogwipo Korean restaurant: baby octopus set, shrimp fry & sindari

Aptteure Jjukkumi (앞뜰에쭈꾸미) is a Korean restaurant on 516-ro in Seogwipo, Jeju, near Soesokkak, Seongpanak and Dongnaeko, serving jjukkumi bokkeum (stir-fried baby octopus). Arriving hungry after an ATV ride, the writer skipped the 10,000 won lunch special for the Aptteure Jjukkumi set, which adds handmade shrimp fry and radish wraps, ordered steamed egg on the side, and enjoyed smoky stir-fried baby octopus, icy acorn jelly soup (muk-sabal) and sindari, a traditional Jeju drink. For a good-value Korean lunch in Seogwipo, Aptteure Jjukkumi is a solid choice.

Namwon café for a friends' chat over pumpkin cheesecake: Monocle Jeju

Monocle Jeju is a Blue Ribbon dessert café on Taewi-ro 360beon-gil in Namwon-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju. Four friends caught up at Monocle Jeju over gluten-free pumpkin cheesecake, iced americanos and a strawberry latte, and the hydrangea-lined entrance and forest-like terrace stood out. Monocle Jeju is a good stop on an eastern Seogwipo trip for both the cake and the atmosphere.

Jeju City dessert café: real-watermelon tangmoban, corn cake, Gluttony

Gluttony Coffee is a café on Gunam-ro 2-gil in Jeju City, near Jeju Airport, known for handmade bakery items and cakes baked in-store. After a glassblowing class and a beef course meal, the writer stopped at Gluttony Coffee for dessert and ordered the Chodang sweet corn cake, a salted caramel financier, a tangmoban (Thai-style watermelon smoothie) made with real watermelon and an iced americano. Thanks to the summer-season corn cake and the fresh watermelon tangmoban, Gluttony Coffee is a dessert stop worth adding to a Jeju trip.

Hanu BBQ in Yeon-dong, Jeju: staff-grilled lunch at Yeonhwa Deungsim

Yeonhwa Deungsim (연화등심) is a 1++ hanu (Korean beef) restaurant on Yeonhwajung-gil in Yeon-dong, Jeju City. The writer booked the 29,000 won per person lunch course for two and had salad, sweet pumpkin tempura, hanu beef tartare, 100g of grilled 1++ hanu per person, doenjang malli and a lemon hongcho drink, with staff grilling the beef. With partitioned seats and tableside grilling, the Yeonhwa Deungsim lunch course is good value for a date or a meal with older family members.

Jigging boat in Seogwipo, Jeju: pack seasickness pills, Gwangmyeongho

Gwangmyeongho Experience Boat Fishing is a fishing experience boat in Seogwipo, Jeju, departing from the harbor on Soesokkak-ro. On a first-ever boat ride, the writer joined the 8 a.m. 4-hour jigging course without seasickness pills, got badly seasick in the waves and rain, and made 6 trips to the toilet, while companions on the same boat caught 3 greater amberjack. Gwangmyeongho is well equipped with life jackets, water, snacks and a toilet, so as long as you bring seasickness pills, it makes a fun family activity among the things to do in Jeju Island.

Songjeong, Ulsan hangover soup spot: hanwoo mulhoe with Mom, Boksan

Boksan Haejang (복산해장) is a lunch-only Korean restaurant in Songjeong-dong, Buk-gu, Ulsan, specializing in haejang-guk (hangover soup) and mulhoe (icy cold soup). The writer, who had been to Boksan Haejang before with a friend, came back with her mom and ordered one bowl of haejang-guk and one of hanwoo mulhoe. Both the red, yukgaejang-like Gyeongsang-style haejang-guk and the slushy hanwoo mulhoe topped with clean-tasting yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) were satisfying. Boksan Haejang is worth recommending for a simple one-bowl lunch after errands in Songjeong.

Dessert café near Ecoland, Jeju: end-of-stay mango bingsu at Lala Cafe

Lala Cafe is an apple mango bingsu (shaved ice) and bakery dessert café on Namjo-ro in Jocheon-eup, Jeju, near Ecoland. Two days before ending her stay on Jeju, the writer had lunch with her friend Jjini, then stopped at Lala Cafe for the ₩49,000 mango bingsu for two. The bingsu is made with apple mango from Seogwipo's Theme Farm, and the mango was so sweet that no condensed milk was needed. If you plan to visit Ecoland in Jocheon, Lala Cafe is a dessert café worth stopping at.

Jeju rice cake shop: end-of-month-stay omegi-tteok for Mom, Suragan

Suragan Tteokbang (수라간떡방) is an omegi-tteok (Jeju millet rice cake) shop at 41 Noyeon-ro, Jeju City, near Jeju Airport. At the end of a one-month stay on Jeju, and at Mom's request, the writer packed a mixed 20-piece omegi-tteok box at ₩1,000 per piece, plus single pieces of pumpkin injeolmi and mosi songpyeon (ramie-leaf rice cake). The writer froze everything following the shop's storage method and carried it home to Ulsan. Suragan Tteokbang is an easy stop on the way to the airport, and parcel delivery is a good option if you have a lot of luggage.

Jeju Dongmun Market sashimi takeout for a guesthouse potluck: Dutumhoe

Dutumhoe Dongmun Market Main Branch is a sashimi and sushi takeout shop inside the Gate 8 night market at Dongmun Market in Jeju. The day before leaving Jeju, a guesthouse staff member went back to Dutumhoe, the best meal of the trip, and packed coconut shrimp, flatfish + salmon sashimi and futomaki (thick sushi roll) for under ₩50,000 in total. With tidy lunchbox-style packing and a free cooler bag, Dutumhoe is a Dongmun Market sashimi takeout you can carry 40 minutes back to your stay without worry.

Nohyeong, Jeju souvenir shop: Harubang prices by flavor, Today Jeju

Today Jeju Shilla Duty Free Shop Jeju Branch (오늘제주 신라면세점 제주점) is a Jeju souvenir dessert shop on the 1st floor of the Shilla Duty Free building at 69 Noyeon-ro, Jeju City, selling Dol Harubang (stone grandfather statue) shaped chocolates and madeleines for ₩3,200–4,000 each. On the last day of the trip, the writer picked Harubang chocolates and madeleines by flavor, both individually and in boxes, and also bought a red bean egg tart and a Harubang Sand. With a parking tower and Jeju Airport close by, Today Jeju is a handy souvenir stop to end a Jeju trip.
