A clean, warm space
Wooden tables and bright lighting work together to make the whole place feel comfortable. The uncluttered interior lets the desserts and coffee stand out, and natural light comes in at the window seats, so photos turn out really pretty. It would suit reading or laptop work on your own, and it's a lovely date spot too, a great café in Gyesan-dong.

A new Gyesan-dong café that's serious about dessert
The biggest reason I recommend Dalgeuraem is the desserts. They aren't just pretty; you can taste the care in each one, and I was impressed the whole time I ate. There was such a variety of breads and cakes on display that choosing was hard.

Cherry cake, salt bread, pollock roe, financier

What does the soft salt bread at Dalgeuraem taste like?
Dalgeuraem's soft salt bread (sogeumppang, a buttery roll with a salted base) is much softer and fluffier than a typical salt bread. It looks simple, but one bite tells you why it's a popular item. It stays so moist that it sinks fluffily when you press it lightly with your hand. The surface has a gentle shine and a plain butter aroma, and the inside has distinct layers that melt in your mouth, which felt great.
Biting in, the nutty butter flavor and just-right saltiness work together so you keep reaching for more. The saltiness isn't strong, so it's easy to enjoy, and the plain taste of the bread itself makes it a perfect match for coffee. Eating it with an iced latte was especially good, as the creamy milk and the butter aroma of the salt bread came together. The inside is moist and chewy yet layered, and the richness rose the more I chewed, while the slightly chewy outside kept it from feeling monotonous. The butter wasn't greasy; it spread subtly, so I never got tired of it down to the last bite.
People who usually like crispy salt bread will be satisfied too, but I'd especially recommend it to anyone who likes the soft, fluffy texture the name promises. It's light enough for days when sweet desserts feel like too much, and with an Americano the bread's nuttiness comes out even more, making it fine for brunch or a snack. It's the kind you think about again after one bite, with a plain but deep flavor.

Why the pollock roe mayo salt bread is my pick for Dalgeuraem's signature
Dalgeuraem's pollock roe mayo salt bread (myeongran mayo sogeumppang) is golden baked salt bread piled generously with pollock roe mayo and seaweed topping. It caught my eye first with a look that made me want to eat it right away, and the generous toppings raised my expectations. In the first bite, the crisp yet chewy bread and the nutty pollock roe mayo filled my mouth, and the salty-yet-smooth flavor was really appealing.

If the plain salt bread is about butter flavor and a clean taste, the pollock roe mayo version adds savory umami for a much deeper flavor. The popping texture of the roe blends naturally with the nutty mayonnaise, so it isn't harsh but still keeps you thinking about it. Eating it with the seaweed topping added a faint taste of the sea, and it even felt like eating at a Japanese-style bakery.

The bread is slightly crisp outside and moist inside with distinct layers, so the butter's nuttiness came through as I chewed, and the roe mayo mixed well between the layers so the flavor held up to the last bite. The saltiness wasn't strong or overwhelming; instead it balanced nicely with the plain bread, making it a menu item anyone can enjoy.
It also paired well with the iced Americano I ordered with it. The clean bitterness of the coffee brought out the nuttiness of the roe mayo, so I could finish it without feeling greasy. I think it works as a brunch item and is satisfying enough to stand in for a light meal. Above all, I was impressed that they didn't skimp on the pollock roe. The umami of the roe came through clearly with every bite, a different charm from ordinary salt bread. If you prefer salty, nutty bakery items over sweet desserts, you'll be especially happy with it, and it's addictive enough that you'll want it again after one taste. I confidently recommend this pollock roe mayo salt bread as the signature bakery item you must try at Dalgeuraem, the new café in Gyesan-dong.

Is Dalgeuraem's vanilla financier very sweet?
Dalgeuraem's vanilla financier (a small French butter cake) isn't too sweet, so even people who don't usually go for desserts can eat it without trouble. The golden color looked appetizing at first glance, the outside is baked slightly crisp with a nutty aroma, and the inside stays moist and soft, so sweetness filled my mouth with the first bite. The butter flavor felt richer than in an ordinary financier, and a faint vanilla scent added a sweetness that isn't overwhelming.
What I liked most was the contrast in texture between outside and inside. The outside is slightly chewy and crisp, while the inside is moist and fluffy, so rich butter and vanilla blended harmoniously as I chewed. Eating it with coffee seemed to bring out the flavor even more.

What is Dalgeuraem's double cherry chocolate cake like?
Dalgeuraem's double cherry chocolate cake is topped with pink cream and rich chocolate and a single cherry, a dessert that grabs your eye just by its looks. The single cherry on top is the focal point and gives it a more elegant feel. It's pretty even in photos, but in person it looks even more tempting, and I thought it's a must-order at this new Gyesan-dong café.
The first thing I noticed with a bite was the deep flavor of rich chocolate. The weighty sweetness of chocolate filled my mouth but wasn't too sweet to enjoy, and the soft cream blended in for an even smoother texture. The cream is the light, fresh type, so even alongside the dark chocolate it wasn't greasy at all.

The fresh taste of the cherries tucked in here and there was the biggest charm of this cake. A faint cherry tartness between the sweet chocolate balances the flavor, so each bite tastes a little different. It doesn't end with dark chocolate alone; the freshness of fruit joins in, so I never tired of it to the end. The cake layer is moist too, cutting softly the moment the fork goes in and melting in the mouth, which felt really good.

Cream, cake layers and chocolate mousse are stacked in layers, so every part had a rich flavor, and it was a dessert where each ingredient worked well together. It was also the best pairing with the iced Americano I ordered with it. The clean bitterness of the coffee made the sweetness of the chocolate feel deeper, and the cherry's freshness wrapped up each bite lightly, so I kept going back for more. People who love sweet desserts and those who prefer rich chocolate cake will both be satisfied. Above all, Dalgeuraem's double cherry chocolate cake isn't just a pretty cake; it's a well-finished dessert in flavor too.
