Why I chose Gangneung Sand as a Gangneung trip gift

Gangneung Sand is a snack you can only get in Gangneung, so I picked it as a gift for our parents, and the main branch happened to be right there, so I went in person. We were traveling around Sokcho and Gangneung, and we got talking about sending each set of parents, my boyfriend's and mine, a little souvenir from the trip.

While wondering what to get, we settled on Gangneung Sand, a snack you only find in Gangneung and one that looked good as a gift. It is open daily 09:30-19:00. Since it opens early, I thought it would be a good stop before heading back to Seoul early.

What is Gangneung Sand Main Branch like? From 1F to the 5F observatory

The main branch runs from the 1st floor up to a 5th-floor observatory, so there was a lot to look around. It was my first time visiting the main branch in person, and I was surprised by how much bigger it was than I expected.

I thought it would just be a shop selling products, but the 2nd and 3rd floors each had their own distinct mood, so it was fun to explore floor by floor.

Besides Gangneung Sand, the main branch also sold Gangneung Breakwater Bread. It is made in cute shapes that recall Gangneung's sea and breakwaters, and it caught my eye the moment I saw it.

3F sand play rest area

The 3rd floor is a rest area, but it isn't just a place to sit; it is set up as a sand play space. Kids can spend time playing in the sand, so it looked good for families visiting.

I was impressed that kids can have fun there while you browse and shop for Gangneung Sand.

Gangneung Sand flavors and the ones I packed

There was a range of flavors: coffee and Chodang corn, which Gangneung is famous for, plus dried persimmon and black sesame that adults tend to like. We went with the goal of packing gifts from the start, so we looked over the flavors first.

After some thought, I packed coffee and Chodang corn, which are safe choices and easily bring Gangneung, Gangwon to mind.

One box holds 10 pieces, each individually wrapped in plastic. Single wrapping keeps eating tidy, and it looked handy for sharing out as gifts to several people.

The box itself is neat too, so it looked fine as a gift for parents or friends during a trip.

How did our parents rate the taste of Gangneung Sand?

Both sets of parents who received the coffee and Chodang corn sand said it wasn't too sweet, so it was easy to enjoy. I was curious about their honest reviews, so I asked them later how it tasted.
