Suwon children’s magic show with stage participation: Magic & Joy

I visited Mirinae Magic Theater Magic & Joy Gwanggyo (미리내 마술극단 매직앤조이 광교), on the 10th floor of Galleria Department Store in Gwanggyo, Suwon, with my third- and fourth-grade children. I worried they might find a show aimed at very young children boring, but this time we chose to watch magic up close instead of a movie.

Where is the venue, and what are the weekend showtimes?

The venue is on the 10th floor of Galleria Department Store in Gwanggyo. I took the elevator in front of pillar E0 and saw it as soon as I got off on the 10th floor. The original post lists three weekend and public-holiday shows a day: 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.

Because it is inside the department store, it was convenient to eat or shop before and after the show. We had always passed by and wondered about it whenever we came to watch movies with the children, so this time we finally went in.

Why did we arrive early for the 2 p.m. show?

We booked the 2 p.m. show and arrived at 12:30 p.m. Parking at Galleria Gwanggyo was busy on the weekend, so we wanted to arrive with time to spare and look around while we waited.

While waiting, we bought popcorn and slowly looked around the department store. It was more comfortable not to feel rushed when moving around with the children.

Could elementary school children stay engaged?

Since it was a children’s magic show, I thought my elementary school children might find it a little boring. But when the magic unfolded right in front of them, they naturally focused and reacted whenever the audience was involved. My husband and I were absorbed in it too.

How close could we see the magic from the seats?

At the time of our visit, entry was available from 10 minutes before the show began. Once we collected our tickets and went in, I found the venue fairly small.

We were lucky to get front-row seats. I liked being close enough to see even the magician’s hand movements, and the children watched the magic intently. My concern about whether they would focus on the show disappeared during this visit.

Is there time for children to participate directly?

What I liked most was that there was time for children to go up on stage and participate with the magician.

The audience reacted more strongly whenever children went up on stage. Seeing magic close up and having a chance to take part themselves seemed likely to stay in their memories for a long time.

They received magic tools as gifts, learned how to use them, and tried them themselves.

I had been thinking about what kind of outing to plan with children who are now in elementary school, and the experience of seeing magic at close range and trying it themselves was what stayed with me most. It was fun in a different way from the movies we usually watch.

What review event was running at the time of our visit?

When we came out after the show, there was an event giving away headbands for writing a Naver photo review. I thought it was a small gift the children would like.
