Gyeongju Hwangridan-gil restaurant, five-color jjimdak lunch: Dongyang
Dongyang Baekban is a Korean restaurant on Hwangridan-gil in Gyeongju, set in an old house converted into a hanok dining room. On a weekday afternoon with her son, who was off school for the school's founding anniversary, the writer had a whole room to herself and ordered five-color vegetable jjimdak (braised chicken) for 28,000 won, hanwoo mulhoe (chilled raw beef in cold broth) for 12,000 won, and egg rice for 3,500 won. The raw beef tasted great even before it was mixed into the broth, and the boneless jjimdak came piled with vegetables — easily enough for two.
