Odeng Osaek Gangnam Station Branch (오뎅오색 강남역점) is an oden izakaya on Seocho-daero 73-gil, between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station in Seoul. On a rainy-day date, the writer and her husband ordered the Japanese oden moriawase (assorted oden set) with Sapporo draft beer and a peach highball, and the ₩2,900 happy hour beer and 1L draft beer event made it great value. Odeng Osaek Gangnam Station Branch is a good Gangnam oden bar for a second round when you want warm broth and a light drink.

Gangnam Station café, rainy-day date & mango ade: Selected Nicks

Selected Nicks is a large tiramisu café in Gangnam, Seoul, about 5 minutes from the Shinbundang Line exit at Gangnam Station, with seating on floors 1, 2 and 3 plus an 8th-floor rooftop. On a drizzly date with her husband, the writer ordered a tropical mango ade (7,500 won), a milk tea (7,000 won) and a plain tiramisu (7,800 won) and ate them on the 3rd floor. The plain tiramisu had cream that wasn't too sweet and moist sponge layers. Selected Nicks is a solid pick for dessert during a date or get-together near Gangnam Station.

Pyeongtaek shabu-shabu lunch with a piano rest area: Songdam Kalguksu

Songdam Kalguksu (송담칼국수) is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant on Gangbyeon-ro in Anjung-eup, Pyeongtaek. A couple ordered octopus shabu-shabu and beef shabu-shabu for lunch, along with barley rice, black soybean cream kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles) and chive noodle kalguksu, and especially liked the refreshing broth and the self-serve bar kimchi. With free parking and a rest area, Songdam Kalguksu is a good-value pick for a family meal or a workday lunch.

Gongdo, Anseong date-night café: coconut mango bingsu, Chat Baker

Chat Baker Brunch & Bakery Café is a 500-pyeong brunch and bakery café in Gongdo-eup, Anseong, near Anseong Farmland. After dinner, the writer and her husband stopped at Chat Baker for an Americano made with nutty beans and a coconut fresh mango bingsu (shaved ice), then took a loaf of white bread home. The coconut fresh mango bingsu, with more mango hidden inside the ice, was the most satisfying order of the visit.

Pho restaurant near Pyeongtaek City Hall for weekend lunch: Mibundang

Mibundang Pyeongtaek City Hall Branch is a Vietnamese pho restaurant in front of Pyeongtaek City Hall in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. On a weekend lunch, a couple ordered chadol-yangji brisket pho, chadol-yangji-tendon pho and potato-wrapped shrimp, and the rich broth, made daily with Korean herbal ingredients and black garlic, was so good the husband drank every drop. With free topping refills for one dish per person, Mibundang Pyeongtaek City Hall Branch is a filling pho spot for solo diners and dates alike.
