Yeouido blind-date restaurant with octopus steak and potato pave: MOI

In short

MOI is a fusion Western restaurant on the 2nd floor of Gongjak Sangga near Yeouinaru Station in Yeouido (Yeongdeungpo), Seoul. At dinner, MOI's octopus steak (34,000 won) with gochujang sauce was tender, and the potato pave (18,000 won), a layered potato cake served with mushroom cream sauce, was fun to peel apart layer by layer. Half the tables at MOI were blind dates that evening, which says it all: a Yeouido restaurant with a good balance of atmosphere and flavor.

Where MOI is and how to get there

Route to MOI through Gongjak Sangga in Yeouido

MOI sits right in the heart of Yeouido's commercial district, so access is quite good. It's close to The Hyundai Seoul, making it a nice stop after shopping, and given how many office workers are in the area, there's a lot of foot traffic during weekday lunch and dinner hours.

By subway, you can walk there from either Yeouido Station or Yeouinaru Station, so public transit access is convenient too.

MOI's interior mood, half the tables on blind dates

Wood-toned lighting inside MOI

The interior is clean and sophisticated overall. The wood tones and soft lighting blend together for a calm yet stylish feel. The spacing between seats is comfortable enough for conversation, and it suits both dates and small gatherings well.

There's a hint of an open-kitchen feel that builds trust in the food, and overall the space is understated while still setting a strong mood. Even amid Yeouido's usual busy energy, you can enjoy a relatively relaxed meal here.

Maybe it was a coincidence, but that evening there were 3-4 tables on blind dates. More than half of this small restaurant was on blind dates... this must be a hidden blind-date spot!

They also had a good variety of wines at different price points, which made the mood perfect for enjoying a glass with dinner.

MOI's menu lineup

MOI menu listing pasta and octopus dishes

MOI serves Western-based dishes like pasta, risotto and steak, but what stands out is the lineup built around octopus. The octopus steak, which you rarely see elsewhere, is clearly MOI's signature dish.

Overall the menu doesn't feel too pricey while still showing quality, and the plating comes out clean, which boosts satisfaction with the meal. It's also a lineup that pairs well with wine or a simple drink.

Table spread of MOI's octopus steak and potato pave

We ordered the octopus steak (34,000 won) and the potato pave (18,000 won), and both were works of art in plating. The plating was so pretty it raised my expectations for the food right away. It felt almost a shame to eat it, and I ended up taking photos for a while.

Cross-section of the layered fried potato pave

Under the potato pave was a mushroom cream sauce, seasoned just right with an incredible depth of umami. The potatoes were fried thin like pastry and stacked in layers, which made for a fun eating experience of peeling them apart one by one. On top of the fried potato was a generous pile of onion and arugula, which cut through the richness nicely.

MOI's octopus steak with gochujang sauce

What impressed me most here was definitely the octopus steak. It's an ingredient that can easily turn out chewy, but at MOI the texture was kept remarkably tender. The outside was lightly seared for a nutty flavor, while the inside stayed moist, releasing a subtle sweetness the more you chewed.

The orange sauce underneath was gochujang (Korean red chili paste) sauce, but it was so smooth and creamy that it didn't taste like gochujang at all. It was a truly unique dish, adding a spoonful of Korean flavor to a Mediterranean-style octopus steak. Without being overly expensive, it left me satisfied that I'd properly tasted an upscale fusion dish that blended Western and Korean flavors well, something I hadn't had in a while.

Is MOI a good blind-date or date spot in Yeouido?

MOI is a hidden gem of a restaurant that works both as a Yeouido blind-date spot and a date destination. If you want mood and taste together in Yeouido, MOI is definitely worth considering. Access, interior and food quality are all well balanced overall. The octopus dish in particular felt like the key reason to come back.

It's a good place for a light meal and also for slowly enjoying the atmosphere, so if you're looking for something different to eat in Yeouido, it's worth a visit at least once.
