Sinchon Taiwanese restaurant, first-time beef noodles: Cheonghwaweon

In short

Cheonghwaweon (청화원) Sinchon is a Taiwanese restaurant specializing in beef noodle soup and dim sum, located on Myeongmul-gil near Sinchon Station in Seodaemun, Seoul. On a date with a partner trying beef noodle soup for the first time, the writer arrived at opening time and ordered the basic beef noodle soup (in the low ₩10,000s), shrimp dim sum, beef stir-fried noodles and beef fried rice; the chewy noodles and the generously filled shrimp dim sum stood out most. Cheonghwaweon Sinchon won over even a Taiwanese-food first-timer, who wanted to come back.

I really love dim sum, and even just a few well-stuffed dumplings leave me feeling full and happy. I also love eating beef noodle soup (niu rou mian, 우육면) together with dim sum. While we were figuring out what to eat on this date, my partner said they had never had beef noodle soup even once, so off we went for noodles and dim sum. Let me introduce Cheonghwaweon (청화원) Sinchon branch, a Sinchon Station favorite where you can enjoy beef noodle soup, dim sum, beef fried rice and beef stir-fried noodles as if you were eating them locally in Taiwan!

Where is Cheonghwaweon Sinchon, and what about parking?

Cheonghwaweon Sinchon is on the Sinchon street (Myeongmul-gil) and is only a short walk from Sinchon Station. Being right on the street made it easy to find, and it looks really convenient to reach by public transport too!

If you come by car, you can use the Sinchon alley parking. We went in my partner's car, and the Sinchon street allows alley parking during set hours, like 11am to 2pm and 3pm to 6pm, so parking was easy. We arrived right at opening time.

The inside of Cheonghwaweon Sinchon is very spacious and clean. Even though we came right when it opened, there were already families eating! It's a great place to visit with family.

What we ordered at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon

Every table has a tablet, so it's easy to sit back and browse the menu. There was so much tasty-looking food that it was hard to choose. After some debating, we added the basic beef noodle soup and shrimp dim sum, then went big with beef stir-fried noodles and beef fried rice too!

Side dishes of seasoned cabbage and peanuts at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon

The side dishes were seasoned cabbage and peanuts. It had been a while since I'd had peanuts, and they were so good! I liked how simple the side dishes were right from the start.

The dishes came out one by one, and the first to arrive was the beef fried rice at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon!

And the egg soup you can have with the fried rice! It was mild and deep in flavor too.

Beef stir-fried noodles: is there a mala flavor?

The beef stir-fried noodles at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon have a slight mala (numbing-spicy) aroma. They're packed with beef, onion, bell pepper and other tasty ingredients, which made the flavor even richer. If you love mala, or can't handle it, keep this in mind.

The noodles in the beef noodle soup here are wonderfully chewy yet soft, so satisfying to bite into! Beef noodle soup is just good any time, isn't it? Even people who don't usually like noodles would probably enjoy this texture.

Prices and portions at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon

The beef noodle soup at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon was in the low ₩10,000s. The table was full to the brim, really generous, right? Even eating this much, it isn't that expensive! And the portions are huge, haha. It would be great to go with a group of friends too.

Shrimp dim sum at Cheonghwaweon Sinchon

Juicy shrimp dim sum

The shrimp dim sum here is packed full inside, and the juices bursting in your mouth were the best part. It had been a while since I'd had shrimp dim sum... if you love shrimp dim sum, just order this one, no question. I feel like I could eat three baskets by myself, haha.

My partner's reaction to their first beef noodle soup

At Cheonghwaweon Sinchon we had a solid, filling meal of beef noodle soup, dim sum, beef stir-fried noodles and beef fried rice. Even my partner, who was trying Taiwanese food for the first time, wanted to come again, so if you like Taiwanese food, please stop by at least once!! ♥
