Sokcho sashimi takeout shop: icy mul-hoe over veggies, Han's Kitchen

In short

Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch is a takeout sashimi shop on the Rodeo side of Jungang Market in Sokcho, Gangwon, that works by Naver reservation. On a weekend, the blogger and her boyfriend parked at the City Hall lot, picked up a small mixed sashimi set and 350ml of mul-hoe broth, and at their lodging poured the slushy, half-frozen broth over the mul-hoe vegetables laid under the fish to make mul-hoe (cold spicy raw fish soup). Han's Kitchen is a good-value takeout spot where two people can fill up on flounder, sole and young amberjack sashimi plus mul-hoe for under 50,000 won.

My boyfriend and I go to Sokcho in Gangwon a lot, and a Sokcho trip just isn't complete without Jungang Market food❗️ So this time I'm going to introduce one sashimi place, one nurungji squid sundae (crispy-rice squid sausage) spot and one fried chicken spot among all the Sokcho Jungang Market eats. First up is Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch (한스키친 회포장 속초중앙시장본점)!

Where is Han's Kitchen in Sokcho Jungang Market, and where do you park?

This Jungang Market sashimi shop is a short walk from the market toward the Rodeo area! It's a real hidden gem, and lots of people seem to find it through reviews. The shop faces a road, so you can't park there. I'd suggest stopping briefly to pick up your order, or using the Jungang Market parking lot!

This time we used the City Hall parking lot, and if you're going on a weekend, I recommend City Hall over the market lot! It's free and less crowded than the market lot~

The moment we walked in, we saw the shop full of fresh seafood.

Do you need a reservation at Han's Kitchen?

Han's Kitchen is a takeout-only shop, so you need to reserve on Naver (Korea's main search and map portal) before visiting. Since it runs on reservations, you can pick up your sashimi at your time slot without waiting, which was really convenient.

Why Han's Kitchen stands out among Sokcho sashimi shops

The reason I recommend Han's Kitchen out of all the sashimi places in Sokcho is the value for money! A sashimi restaurant is usually ₩100,000 at minimum, but at Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch, two people can enjoy a mixed sashimi set and even mul-hoe for ₩50,000!

What's in the Han's Kitchen small mixed sashimi set, and how does it taste?

Han's Kitchen small mixed sashimi of flounder, sole and young amberjack

The Han's Kitchen mixed sashimi was made up of flounder, sole and seasonal live fish. You can check the lineup when you reserve, and in the third week of October, when I visited, it was flounder, sole and young amberjack.

We took it away and ate it at our accommodation. It looked super fresh, and it really had that bouncy sashimi texture.

The amberjack in particular was thick, with a chewy bite and a nutty flavor that grew the more I chewed. Maybe because it was cut thick, it kept that hefty amberjack richness😋 The flounder was chewy yet clean-tasting! It went perfectly with the fatty amberjack. I loved that you can eat plenty of different kinds of sashimi for under ₩50,000 ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́

Can you make mul-hoe from takeout sashimi? The 350ml mul-hoe broth

What impressed me most at Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch is that under the sashimi there are mul-hoe vegetables instead of the usual cheonsachae (clear seaweed noodles)😲

Mul-hoe vegetables laid under the sashimi

Even if you don't order mul-hoe separately, pouring broth over the takeout sashimi and vegetables makes it. ※ You have to add the broth yourself! If you're planning to eat by the sea or at your accommodation, I recommend adding a bowl for the mul-hoe too.

Mul-hoe made by pouring broth over mixed sashimi and vegetables

I piled in the mixed sashimi, vegetables and lots of broth to make my very own Naemnyami mul-hoe. The broth had ice slush in it, so it was great for a refreshingly cold bowl.

Instant mul-hoe in icy slush broth

The Han's Kitchen mul-hoe broth is spicy with a savory depth, so I think it'd be tasty with just vegetables and no sashimi. It really woke up my appetite😋 Isn't the idea of mul-hoe vegetables laid under the sashimi great?? There was plenty of sashimi and vegetables too, more than enough for two people to eat their fill, with leftovers.

Can you buy Sokcho craft beer at Han's Kitchen?

Han's Kitchen also sells Sokcho craft beer in the shop. There was a wider variety than I expected. We didn't buy any that day since we were having soju with our sashimi, but if you usually enjoy beer or want to try Sokcho's own craft beer, it could be nice to pick some up with your sashimi.

When Han's Kitchen sashimi takeout is a good choice

Sokcho Jungang Market food recommendation #1: Han's Kitchen Hoepojang Sokcho Jungang Market Branch seems like a good pick when you want to take sashimi back to your accommodation and eat comfortably, enjoy sashimi at a good price, try several kinds of sashimi, or have seasonal sashimi and mul-hoe together! 🐟🐡 If you're looking for a great takeout sashimi spot in Sokcho Jungang Market, I recommend Han's Kitchen💗
