Pocheon campground A5 site and valley snail catching: Byeolbit

I went to a campground over the weekend where you can play in Damteo Valley. The valley is right in front of the site, and since it's newly opened, it's spotless. Car camping is fine and same-day picnic use is also possible. The young owner was super friendly too, which made it even better — let me introduce Byeolbit Camping Site in Pocheon. I'll focus on the features of each site and include my picks for the best spots!

Where is Byeolbit Camping Site in Pocheon?

Byeolbit Camping Site is located at 307-2 Damteo-gil, Gwanin-myeon, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, right in front of Damteo Valley.

On weekends, the road along Damteo Valley gets really congested with cars illegally parked on both sides. Don't waste precious time in the car looking for a parking spot — I'd recommend booking Byeolbit and enjoying the valley safely and comfortably instead.

Follow the navigation up to the upper part of Damteo Valley and you'll find a sign pointing to the entrance of Byeolbit Camping Site.

What facilities does Byeolbit Camping Site have?

With mountains behind and a valley in front, Byeolbit Camping Site is basically a paradise on earth. The management building itself is kept very clean, and both the owner and staff are extremely friendly.

There are showers and restrooms on either side of the management building, and the inside was very clean too. There were people using them at the time so I didn't take separate photos.

They also sell coffee inside the management building. Join their review event and get a cold americano haha. The shop isn't huge, but it's stocked well enough to cover anything you urgently need.

This is the layout map of Byeolbit Camping Site. The picnic zone is a raised platform area for same-day camp-nic use. The camping sites are split into Zone A, Zone B, and Zone C, each with its own character.

The A sites at Byeolbit Camping Site

Each site here is quite spacious. The biggest advantage is being close to the management building and amenities while still having the valley right in front of you. Since we planned to pitch a tarp screen, we booked A-site, listed as 7m×9m, and once we actually set it up it felt even bigger than that! We thought it would be a tight fit, but there was still room on both sides.

The B sites at Byeolbit Camping Site

Compared to A, the B sites felt a bit more tightly clustered together. It's hard to tell from photos, but B sites also have direct access down to the valley, with well-maintained stone steps. They're farther from the management building, but I felt that trade-off comes with a quieter, more relaxed camping experience.

The C site and the two-family site

This is the C-site and two-family site area. The two-family site is wide horizontally, so I'd recommend pitching your tent lengthwise across it! If you rent the two-family site and come with friends, it seems like it'd make for an especially fun, memorable camping trip. C-site's biggest advantage is shade — it's not fully covered, but the mountain behind it casts shade over part of it. It's also close to the amenities, making for convenient camping. That said, the valley isn't directly visible from the site itself.

The picnic zone with raised platforms

Between A-site and B-site there's a shaded picnic zone with raised wooden platforms. I think the biggest advantage is that you get 8 hours of same-day camp-nic use, from 10am to 6pm. Site check-in is at 1pm, but the picnic zone opens at 10am! Plus, you can get a camping vibe going even without gear, and there's a tarp too, so it creates cool shade.

Which is the best site at Byeolbit Camping Site?

It depends on your situation, but here are my personal picks for the best spots.

• Want to be close to amenities and the valley? A4, A5, B1, B2, C1, C2
• Want the valley visible right from your site? A-site and B-site
• No gear and just want a same-day camp? Car camping or the picnic zone
• Shade matters to you? C-site
• Want a quiet, peaceful camp? A1, B13, B14, B15

I'm definitely coming back, and next time I still want A4–5! With kids who need the bathroom constantly, being close to the amenities is the best haha.

The sky was really clear the day I visited. Blue skies with an occasional breeze — perfect camping weather.

Electricity is available at every site. I'd recommend bringing a reel cord for convenience.

My husband set up a parasol zone right in front of our site. Sitting here soaking in the lush green view and staring at the valley was proper healing.

I also cracked open a cold non-alcoholic beer, pairing it with the blue sky and green mountains as my snack.

Alright, let's head down to the valley via these safe, neatly built stone steps! I was genuinely impressed by how tidily they were made haha.

The water was so clear — I had no idea Pocheon had such a clean, beautiful valley. Another thing I never would've known if it weren't for this campground!

It was so clean it looked drinkable.

We rented a scoop net (paid) from the management building. If you have your own, I'd recommend bringing it from home! I swore today I'd absolutely catch a fish, but... yeah, I didn't. Still, I spotted freshwater snails here and there and caught a few.

Barbecue time and the nearest mart

At the well-kept sink, I washed vegetables and microwaved some instant rice to get dinner going in earnest ❣️

This camp was all about barbecue. We didn't buy the meat ahead of time in case it went bad, and instead picked it up on the way at Gwanin Hanaro Mart, 13 minutes away by car.

Our barbecue came together in no time. We really had a great time today.

We had to pack up after dinner since I had work the next day, but it was seriously hard to leave. Next time, we're definitely staying one night — no, two nights!!
