Dangjin weekday lunch hairtail set for ₩9,900: Hwadeogeuro Gan
In short
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Dangjin Wondang Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Wondang-ro in Dangjin, Chungnam. Weekday lunch starts at 9,900 won, and the hairtail set and mackerel set ordered for two, both swapped to gondeure rice (rice with dried gondeure herb), came with two thick pieces of hairtail and a good-sized mackerel — more than enough for two people. With a self-bar of bulgogi, japchae and sungnyung (roasted rice tea), Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo makes for a generous, great-value lunch.

🐟 Dangjin food spot 🐟 Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Dangjin Wondang Branch
You know wood-fired grilled fish tastes different, right? The fat drips right out, the outside gets crispy, and the inside stays moist. If you're craving wood-fired grilled fish, here's my detailed review of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Dangjin Wondang Branch, a Korean restaurant in Dangjin.

Menu and prices at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo in Dangjin
They've got the set menus down well. The nourishing menu seems to include sea eel, flounder, mackerel, and other fish along with braised dishes. Besides grilled fish, there are also braised fish, crab marinade sets, and pork stir-fry sets — so there's something for everyone even in a group.

Partitioned seats and baby chairs: is it good with kids?
The interior of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Dangjin Wondang Branch is very clean. Best of all, the tables have partitions, so you can eat comfortably without feeling watched by people around you. The tables are also spacious, great for spreading out all the dishes.
They also have baby chairs, so it was nice to bring the little one along. They gave us separate baby dishware too.
The self-bar: bulgogi, japchae and sungnyung

One of the best things about Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo is the self-bar. Beyond the basic side dishes, there's a whole other spread at the self-bar! You can take as much as you want, so it's a really generous, great-value meal. The side dishes are mostly Korean, so it's Dangjin's Korean food at its best!

There's soup too, plus bread to go with it... (with a dash of pepper)

And of course, sungnyung to finish — the nutty, roasted rice tea lets you wrap up the meal feeling happily full.

This bulgogi and tteokbokki aren't part of the basic side dishes. I went back for the bulgogi a few times because it was that good haha. Kids would love it too.

Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) is also included as a basic side, but it was nice being able to get more.
There's also pickled perilla leaves, pickled peppers, seasoned freshwater crab, salad, and leafy greens with doenjang paste for wraps — plenty more extras.

You can even make bibimbap. I had gondeure rice this time, but next time I'll order plain white rice, pile on all the bibimbap ingredients, add plenty of perilla oil, and mix it all up!

With the self-bar, you really can eat a generous, great-value meal.

Hairtail set and mackerel set for two, swapped to gondeure rice
I ordered the hairtail set for one and the mackerel set for one, making two total (swapped to gondeure rice). Here are the basic side dishes that came out first.

Doenjang soup with the basic side dishes ✨️ You could finish a whole bowl of rice on just this.

The gondeure rice comes with a soy sauce seasoning — mixed together, it's honey-sweet. The slightly bitter yet clean flavor of gondeure was great, and it paired perfectly with the grilled fish.

Then out came the grilled fish sets. Mackerel for one and hairtail for one, served together like this. The hairtail was for one person, but it was bigger than expected — two thick fillets, and the grilled mackerel was also quite large. It was more than enough for the two of us.

Plus the extra self-bar side dishes — really generous, right?
The mackerel especially was so moist. Crispy on the outside, moist and savory inside — it practically demands rice.
It was prepped to be easy to eat, so even though it's fish, I could enjoy it comfortably.

Picking the fish apart and mixing it into the gondeure rice is honey-sweet as ever ✨️✨️ It's a place where you can have a generously full lunch in Dangjin. If you're craving Korean food in Dangjin, I recommend Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Dangjin Wondang Branch.
It's really a wood-fired oven, you know..!!! Nice and toasty warm. That wraps up this review.
