Ansan dessert café: strawberry Einspänner and mammoth cake, Deep Dive
In short
Deep Dive is a dark-toned dessert café on Gojan-ro in Danwon-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi. The writer ordered an iced peppermint tea, a strawberry Einspänner (a cream-topped drink) and a mammoth cake stacked with crumble and cream, and the unsweetened peppermint cut through the sweetness, so the cake and the drink never got cloying. Deep Dive is a calm Ansan café for pairing drinks with desserts.

Today's story is about Deep Dive, a café I visited while looking for a place with a nice atmosphere in Ansan. Even the name made me feel like I'd sink right in, haha. I had peppermint tea, a strawberry Einspänner, and a mammoth cake that was overwhelming from the very first look. Let me tell you all about it.

What is the atmosphere like at Deep Dive in Ansan?

Deep Dive has a dark-toned interior overall, so it feels calm and cozy. Rather than a bright, noisy café, it's a space for quiet conversation or taking your time. The lighting is soft too, so photos of drinks and desserts come out looking moody and nice.

Deep Dive iced peppermint: clean and refreshing

The first drink I ordered at Deep Dive was the iced peppermint. It came in a clear glass packed with ice, and the clear amber color looked cool just to look at.

With one sip, that minty, tingly aroma filled my mouth and my head felt clear. There's no sweetness, just clean, so it went really well with sweet desserts. It's also perfect for people who can't really drink coffee, or for evenings when caffeine feels like too much.

What does the Deep Dive strawberry Einspänner taste like?
The second drink was the strawberry Einspänner. White cream was piled up in a soft mound on top, and strawberries at the bottom gave off a faint pink glow. It was so lovely-looking that I took several photos before drinking it.

I tasted the soft, thick cream first, then stirred in the strawberries and milk below, and the fresh strawberry flavor and nutty milk blended together nicely. The cream wasn't too heavy, so I could enjoy it to the end without feeling overwhelmed. If you like sweet drinks, definitely give it a try.

Deep Dive mammoth cake: an overwhelming look and layered cross-section

The highlight of the day was definitely the mammoth cake. The moment it arrived, its thick height and generous size made me gasp. Big, crunchy crumble sat on top, with powdered sugar and a few herb leaves over it, so you could see the care that went into it.

In cross-section, a thick layer of soft cream sat under the crumble, and below that came another layer of bread and cream plus various fillings, stacked layer by layer. One bite gave me crunchy crumble, soft cream and chewy fillings all at once, which made it fun to eat.

The portion was generous too, enough for two to share. It's sweet yet nutty, and alternating bites with sips of peppermint meant I never got tired of it and enjoyed it to the end.

Which drink pairs well with the mammoth cake?

I was really happy with this combination at Deep Dive. After eating the sweet mammoth cake and strawberry Einspänner, cleansing my palate with clean peppermint gave a perfect balance. At dessert cafés you often get sick of the sweetness quickly, but with a cup of clean tea alongside, I could enjoy it much longer.

Verdict: is Deep Dive in Ansan worth recommending?

Deep Dive in Ansan is a café where you can enjoy tasty drinks and desserts in a calm atmosphere. The mammoth cake especially satisfied me in both looks and taste, and I think I'll be craving it again. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a café with a nice mood or a great dessert spot in Ansan.
