I'm not great with spicy food usually, but I do love a deep, spicy broth, so jjamppong is something I enjoy from time to time! Maybe that's why every time I passed by Namgwangjang in Dongtan and saw the place packed with customers, I'd been curious about it for a while. It's Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch!

Since it's such a well-known spot at Dongtan Namgwangjang, I worried there might be a long wait, but luckily a few tables were free when I arrived, so I got in without waiting ☺️ The moment I stepped inside, the delicious smell of jjamppong wafted out, building up my expectations before I'd even eaten a bite! So let me walk you through the vibe of the place and give an honest rundown of the menu 💛

Hours and parking at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is open Monday through Sunday from 11:00 to 24:00, with last order at 23:10. For parking, you can use the Namgwangjang public surface lot free for 1 hour 30 minutes.

Just so you know, if you visit during peak dinner hours or on weekends, there can be a wait. There's a CatchTable machine set up near the entrance where you enter your phone number and wait comfortably 📱

Inside Bultina: solo-dining seats and baby chairs

The staff greeted and guided us so kindly that I felt good the moment I walked in, but I was genuinely surprised to see the place almost fully seated with customers! I thought, 'so this was a Dongtan jjamppong spot everyone else already knew about!' 😮

The restaurant has a variety of seating, from window seats for solo diners to spacious 4-person tables, so it looked comfortable whether you're dining alone or coming as a family regardless of headcount. And of course, there are baby chairs for those visiting with young children!

The self-serve bar even has hair ties

I was especially touched by how thoughtful the owner was when I saw the self-serve bar set up in one corner of the restaurant 💛

The self-serve bar had baby-specific spoons, scissors, and an apron, along with neatly prepared danmuji (pickled radish) and onions, so it was easy to help yourself to as much as you wanted.

And the hair ties, full marks for that! You know how when you're eating hot, spicy jjamppong you suddenly want to tie your hair up? It happened to be a day I'd forgotten to bring one, so I was amazed that the self-serve bar even had hair ties!

Also, the ordering kiosk at each table shows restroom instructions! If you need to use it, you can check the restroom passcode on the kiosk in advance for convenience 🔑

Spice level 1 cockle jjamppong, jajangmyeon and kids' jajangmyeon

We ordered the signature cockle jjamppong along with jajangmyeon, and a kids' jajangmyeon for the little one! The cockle jjamppong lets you adjust the spice level to your taste, so even a spice wimp like me could enjoy it — you can start from level 1 (about Shin Ramyun spice level), so I went with level 1 🌶️

The cockle jjamppong that arrived first was overwhelming just visually! There were so many cockles packed into the jjamppong that I was genuinely surprised.

Most importantly, the cockles were cleaned really well, with no grit at all, and they were chewy and nutty 🦪

With the distinctive refreshing seafood flavor of the cockles added in, the deep umami and rich, thick broth made it instantly clear why this place gets recommended as a great jjamppong restaurant!

When I took a big bite of onion and cockle together, I could immediately understand why they'd loaded up so many cockles — the combination just worked! 👍

The jajangmyeon and kids' jajangmyeon came in a yunni-jajang style, with finely minced onion and meat! The savory, salty flavor of the chunjang (black bean sauce) clung perfectly to the noodles, so the sauce and noodles never separated and the seasoning was just right 😋

It must have suited the little one's taste, because watching them finish every last bite made me think, this is a great restaurant for kids too 👶

Naver receipt review event and self-serve coffee

Partway through the meal, I noticed a sign on the table about a Naver receipt review event! You can get either crispy fried dumplings (6pcs) or a cold drink as a freebie, so make sure you take part if you visit 🥟

On the way out after a satisfying meal, I noticed a coffee machine set up near the entrance! It seemed placed there so you could cleanse your palate before leaving ☕

Is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong worth a visit?

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, a Dongtan jjamppong spot with plenty of well-cleaned cockles and a deep, rich broth that stood out! Between the staff's kindness and the adjustable spice levels, this really felt like a restaurant that knows jjamppong.

And with the jajangmyeon the kid enjoyed, plus the baby spoons and hair ties and all the thoughtful touches for customers, this is a place I'd happily visit again 🥰 I noticed they're also selling a summer special cold jjamppong, so I'll have to come back before it gets cold out and try that too!
