What is Lazy Off, the handmade burger shop near Mangwon Market?

Lazy Off (LAZY OFF) is a burger shop near Mangwon Market that has built quite a reputation by word of mouth. My husband and I picked up handmade burgers here on our weekend grocery run to Mangwon Market.

On weekends my husband and I head to Mangwon Market for groceries, even though it's a bit of a trek for us. There's so much good food, and the vegetables, fruit and meat are fresh and well priced, so we always come home with both hands full. We like to squeeze in a bit of restaurant hunting too, and this time we stopped at Lazy Off, famous as a burger spot.

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the cooking

Lazy Off has an open kitchen, so you can watch the owners make your burger right in front of you. You could see the kitchen was kept spotlessly clean, and the owners were so, so friendly, which made me happy. These days some places are great on taste but lacking in hygiene or service, so from the moment we walked in I wanted to give it a passing grade.

What are the menu and prices at Lazy Off?

We ordered a bacon cheeseburger (₩8,900), a truffle mushroom burger (₩9,800) and 3 chicken tenders (₩4,500). There's a huge range of handmade burgers, including the cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, Hawaiian burger and shrimp burger, so it was hard to choose. In the end we picked the two most popular signature burgers and a side.

  • Bacon cheeseburger: ₩8,900
  • Truffle mushroom burger: ₩9,800
  • Chicken tenders (3 pieces): ₩4,500

Many places now charge well over ₩10,000 for a single handmade burger, but Lazy Off says it uses good-grade fresh beef and premium, high-butter brioche buns. Even so, the prices are a real bargain, I thought. It would suit anyone looking for a Mangwon-dong lunch spot or an easy, no-pressure meal out.

How does Lazy Off pack burgers for takeout?

They put the burgers and sides in cute separate lunchbox-style containers so nothing got mixed up. The packing was so neat and careful! The tasty smell drifted up through the clear plastic bag, and it was really hard not to drool on the walk home! As soon as we got in, I quickly washed my hands and unpacked everything on the table.

How does the truffle mushroom burger at Lazy Off taste?

The truffle mushroom burger combined a rich truffle aroma, chewy mushrooms and a juicy patty. I opened the burger, carefully wrapped in foil, and it looked amazing! With my first bite, the strong truffle scent filled my whole mouth, and the chewy mushrooms went fantastically with the patty. The high-butter brioche bun was incredibly soft and nutty. And the patty was so tender and packed with juice that the meaty flavor was just art.

The sauce wasn't overpowering and gently coated the ingredients, so it never felt greasy right down to the last bite. I cut it in half to share with my husband. See how packed the inside is?

What does the bacon cheeseburger at Lazy Off taste like?

The bacon cheeseburger is a classic combo of salty bacon, melted cheese and a thick, juicy patty. The one my husband picked was classic yet deep in flavor. Well-grilled salty bacon, nutty melted cheese and a thick, moist patty: how could that not taste good? The gentle sweetness of the brioche bun met the saltiness of the bacon for a proper sweet-and-salty thing. My husband said it was the best handmade burger he'd had lately, and wolfed it down with sparkling eyes.

Are the chicken tenders at Lazy Off worth ordering?

The tenders (3 pieces, ₩4,500) are three chicken tenderloin strips, crispy outside and juicy inside. Sprinkled with parsley, they looked very appetizing. The outside was fried crunchy like a snack, while the inside kept that soft, moist tenderloin texture. Dipped in the ketchup they included, I suddenly thought they'd be perfect with beer too. The burger-and-tender combo was so good that my husband and I promised to reorder exactly this next time.

Bonus tip: evening shopping at Mangwon Market

After eating burgers at Lazy Off or picking up a takeout order, I recommend doing a lap of Mangwon Market in the evening. Late in the evening, the vegetable and fruit shops in the market start their closing-time sales! You can snag fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables at far better prices than during the day, which really cuts your grocery bill. We went to our regular vegetable shop and thriftily scored cucumbers, garlic chives and fruit on closing sale. Tasty handmade burgers plus smart grocery shopping: two birds with one stone, a perfect weekend date.

Is Lazy Off, the Mangwon-dong burger shop, worth going back to?

Lazy Off was a Mangwon-dong burger spot with great value and perfect flavor. Made in an open kitchen full of the friendly owners' passion, it felt hygienic and reassuring, a real Mangwon Market burger gem!! The combination of a bursting-with-juice fresh patty and a soft brioche bun is bound to win over anyone who loves burgers.

I warmly recommend it to anyone who wants a proper handmade burger near Mangwon-dong, or a filling, tasty Mangwon-dong lunch before or after a Mangwon Market tour. The cozy space makes dining in nice, and I think takeout like ours would be great at home or on a picnic mat at Hangang Park too. I'm planning to go back soon for another burger fix!
