Dongtan grill house with no lingering meat smell: Yangpuni kimchi jjim
In short
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a kimchi jjim and pork belly restaurant at the entrance of the Gaenari Park food alley in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, Hwaseong. On a weekend evening the writer and her son ordered the pork belly kimchi jjim set for two (28,000 won), which came with a thick egg roll, self-bar banchan and black rice, with soju at 1,900 won. What stood out most at Yangpuni was how clean the dining room felt — no grease film and no meat smell, even though it is a pork belly place.

A weekend dinner with my son when we wanted something spicy
Last weekend my son and I went to Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae Dongtan, near Dongtan Central Park. It was so clean I kept thinking, wait, is this really a pork belly place?

You know those days when you suddenly, desperately crave spicy kimchi jjim (braised kimchi)? That was exactly that kind of day. Honestly, since the sign also said "samgyeopsal," I was a bit worried about meat smell or greasy floors — but the moment we walked in, the clean first impression totally caught me off guard!

Where Yangpuni is in Bansong-dong, and how much parking it has
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae Dongtan sits right at the entrance of the Gaenari Park food alley.

It's also close to Dongtan Central Park, so it seemed perfect for a walk before or after the meal.

There are about 4 parking spots right in front of the restaurant, so it was easy even bringing the car. Not having to worry about parking is honestly a big plus.

A pork belly restaurant where the meat smell doesn't linger
Inside there were more than 10 tables for four, plus a space toward the back that looked like group seating. It was surprising that even though it's a pork belly place, the floors weren't slippery and there was no meat smell soaked in. The owner must really manage the place carefully.

This is what the interior looked like even during mealtime — spotless.
Yangpuni's opening hours and break time
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae Dongtan (Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi) is open daily from 11 AM to midnight. There's a break time from 3 to 4 PM, so it's best to avoid visiting then.
Ordering the 28,000-won kimchi jjim set for two by tablet
Once we sat down, there was a tablet at the table. So many places use tablet ordering these days — it's really convenient.
The menu had kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), samgyeopjjim, duruchigi (spicy stir-fried pork), samgyeopsal — all Korean dishes I love, so I agonized for a while. My son and I ended up ordering the samgyeopjjim set for two, which comes with the kimchi jjim, an egg roll, and rice as a set — really filling. It cost ₩28,000! Ordering by tablet was easy and convenient.
Banchan that steal the rice, plus unlimited self-bar refills
After we ordered, the basic banchan came out: seasoned laver, seasoned soybeans, and dried radish. A great lineup to go with kimchi jjim, right?

The dried radish especially was so crunchy and delicious that I ended up eating it with rice before the kimchi jjim even arrived, haha.

For anything you run out of, there's a self-bar where you can help yourself as much as you want without feeling awkward about it.

Beyond the seasoned laver, soybeans, and dried radish, there were also onions, shredded scallions, bean sprouts, kimchi, and more — everything you'd need with samgyeopsal. Even as basic banchan, they made the rice disappear fast. A self-bar where you can take as much as you like.
The thick, fluffy egg roll in the set
The first thing to arrive was the egg roll. It was seriously thick — I wondered how many eggs went into it.

The texture was fluffy, with a bit of onion and scallion inside for extra flavor.

When the kimchi jjim got spicy, one bite of this felt like it neutralized everything in my mouth.

See how thick it is? Moist all the way through.
Tender pork belly, fully braised kimchi and a deep, rich broth
Finally, the main dish — samgyeopjjim — arrived! They said it was already fully cooked, so we just needed to heat it up a bit more before eating.

This is the main samgyeopjjim set. The portion is really generous! Big chunks of pork belly, kimchi, and tofu were piled high in the pot.

Both the meat and the kimchi were already cut into easy bite-sized pieces, so we didn't need scissors — that was convenient. The pork belly was so tender and soft.

There wasn't a trace of gaminess — the savory pork blended with the thoroughly braised kimchi, and I thought, this is what real kimchi jjim tastes like.

The kimchi wasn't too sour or too sweet — just the right tang with a deep flavor, which I loved. And the broth was so rich that mixing it into rice made it an absolute rice thief.

The combo of tender pork belly and thoroughly braised kimchi is the best.

The rice that came with it was black rice — light and fluffy, perfect for mixing into the broth. My son and I basically ate in silence, we were so focused.
I noticed other tables adding ramyeon noodles (sari) to their pot, but our kimchi jjim portion was already so generous that we saved the noodle add-on for next time.

Mixing the fluffy black rice into the kimchi jjim broth is pure bliss.
What the bill came to: 28,000 won for two, soju 1,900 won
Honestly, for the quality and portion, ₩28,000 for the samgyeopjjim set for two felt like amazing value — especially with prices these days.

And soju here is ₩1,900. We didn't drink, but for a work dinner or a get-together with friends, that would keep the drink bill light — really nice.

The staff were friendly throughout, and we left the meal in a great mood.
Would I go back to Yangpuni for spicy Korean food in Dongtan?
When you're craving something spicy and hearty in Bansong-dong, Dongtan, Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae Dongtan will really be a choice you won't regret. The restaurant is clean, the food tastes great, and the portions are generous — my son and I left completely full. Next time I want to try the kimchi jjigae or duruchigi too. I'd strongly recommend it for family meals, friend gatherings, or work dinners!
