Samgyetang restaurant in Gangnam: Masamgyetang

I visited Masamgyetang Baengbaeng Sageori Branch (마삼계탕 뱅뱅사거리점), a chicken restaurant in Baengbaeng Sageori, with my family. We drove there, so the parking was convenient, and we enjoyed the boneless chicken we ordered with the samgyetang.

Where is the restaurant, and is parking available?

The address is 19 Dogok-ro 3-gil, 1st floor, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It is 684 m from Exit 4 of Gangnam Station on the Shinbundang Line. You can park underground in the building, and diners receive 90 minutes of free parking, which made our visit easy.

The hours listed when the original article was written were 11:00–21:00 Monday through Friday and 11:00–20:00 on Sunday. Last order was at 20:30 and 19:30, respectively, and the restaurant was regularly closed on Saturdays.

What did we order, and how much did it cost?

I chose the Masamgyetang, which is made with freshly ground yam. I was curious to see what kind of smooth flavor it would have.

Masamgyetang was ₩18,000 per bowl, so we ordered two bowls. We also ordered one serving of boneless chicken for ₩17,000. The total was ₩53,000.

What were the dining area and self-service bar like?

As soon as we ordered and sat down, my family and I commented that the restaurant was clean. I also liked that all the side-dish containers at the self-service bar had lids.

Five basic side dishes were served.

I liked the dark-colored danmuji (pickled radish), garlic side dish, and cabbage side dish enough to get another serving before the samgyetang arrived. Salt for dipping the chicken was also available.

How did the Masamgyetang broth and chicken taste?

The two bowls of Masamgyetang arrived. My family enjoyed it too, not just me.

The broth with yam was fairly thick. It had the deep flavor of samgyetang without feeling chalky or greasy, and the finish was clean.

The chicken was not dry and came apart softly. Eating it with the broth made it feel smooth and savory enough to remind me of cream soup.

There was glutinous rice inside the chicken, adding a savory flavor that made it tasty even without much seasoning. I especially liked the broth, so I kept taking spoonfuls.

How was the boneless chicken we ordered with it?

I do not usually enjoy chicken because I dislike the distinctive gamey smell and taste of chicken.

The boneless chicken here had none of that smell or taste. The meat was tender and juicy, so I kept reaching for another piece.

I went for the samgyetang, but the boneless chicken also stayed with me. It was a dish I would like to order again on my next visit.

Would I return for a family gathering?

Even about a week after our visit, my family and I were still talking about this place. We said we should bring my parents for our next family gathering, and that the children would probably eat well here too. The restaurant was listed as offering group dining and having high chairs.
