Yeongju café near Yeongju Station serving pasta and pork cutlet: Cafe

Cafe 289 is a café and full-meal spot on Guseong-ro near Yeongju Station in Yeongju, Gyeongbuk, an easy stop on the drive to Museom Village. The family ordered creamy bacon pasta, a handmade Korean pork loin cutlet, thin-sliced beef brisket butter pilaf and chicken thigh mushroom salad, and the staff brought out a kids' tray with its own utensil case. Between the marble tables and the styled displays of small objects, Cafe 289 made for a comfortable family meal.

Jinju restaurant for spicy cod cheek stew with roe: Jjimgoeul Gajwa

Jjimgoeul Gajwa Branch is a monkfish and braised-stew restaurant in Gajwa-dong, Jinju, run directly by the son of the original Jjimgoeul in Dongseong-dong, which has been in business for over 30 years using the same seasoning. For a rainy-day lunch, the small cod cheek stew (daegu ppoljjim) came with cod roe added at spice level 1 of 6, slightly spicy, and the small size alone fed three adults. The cod cheek was chewy and the roe soft, so Jjimgoeul Gajwa Branch is a solid pick for a spicy stew with great texture.
