Mapo sashimi restaurant date night after a weekend wait: Mapo Bada

In short

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada (제철담은 마포바다) is a seasonal sashimi and seafood restaurant right outside Exit 3 of Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. After a short wait on the waiting chairs one weekend evening, the blogger and her boyfriend filled a wide table with the 79,000 won Value Set for two: abalone porridge, sushi, grilled gizzard shad, shrimp and sashimi. Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada suits anyone near Daeheung Station who wants a generous seafood spread for about 40,000 won per person.

I went to Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada (제철담은 마포바다) one weekend evening for seasonal seafood! It's a new sashimi restaurant near Daeheung Station, and for about ₩40,000 per person you get a whole spread, from sashimi to shrimp. I ate every last bite 🤍 It's the perfect drinking food▪︎▪︎▪︎ ㅠ If you're looking for a Daeheung Station restaurant or drinking spot, a place for a company dinner or a group get-together, I really recommend it, so here's my honest review ☁️

It's close to the station, so it's easy to reach by public transport, and you can get there from Gongdeok Station too. It opened in September 2026 and is already pretty popular.

How long is the weekend evening wait at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada?

I visited on a weekend evening and waited a little before getting in. Luckily there are waiting chairs set out in front of the restaurant, so you can sit while you wait.

Daeheung has lots of offices, so weekends are usually quieter, and if there's a wait even then ㅠ I'd definitely recommend booking ahead for weekday evenings.

A clean, newly opened space with roomy tables

The first thing I noticed walking into Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada was how clean it is! Maybe because it's newly opened, but the atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable too.

And what I really liked was the wide table. You know how, when two of you go to a restaurant and sit at a small table, there's no room for the plates once the food arrives ㅠㅠ At a sashimi restaurant it's even more annoying, with side dishes, sashimi, seafood and extras all coming on separate plates. But the tables at Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada are wide, so even with lots of dishes we could eat comfortably. I personally care about table size when choosing a restaurant, so this made me especially happy.

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada menu and prices

Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada specializes in seasonal sashimi and seafood. The signature is the Mapo Bada set menu, which comes with a variety of seafood, and you can choose a set by the number of people and the composition.

There's a good range of à la carte dishes too.

  • Salt-grilled live shrimp ₩65,000
  • Live seafood assortment ₩55,000
  • and more

Besides sashimi there's salt-grilled shrimp, seasonal seafood and side dishes, so you can order to suit your taste.

Draft beer and soju prices

The draft beer price is totally fine, right? We came for soju, but the draft was cheap so we added a glass each haha. Soju is also cheap compared with going rates these days!

What comes with the ₩79,000 Value Set for two?

There were two of us, so we ordered the Mapo Bada Value Set (for 2). I expected a generous set menu, but the whole table filled up.

Table filled with the Value Set for two
Value Set starters: abalone porridge, salad and sushi

Abalone porridge, salad and sushi come as starters, which I loved. I like eating lots of different things, so being able to taste a little of everything was the biggest plus.

Grilled gizzard shad side in the Value Set

Steamed egg and grilled gizzard shad come too, which is total drinking food! Nicely salty.

Warm abalone porridge eaten before the meal

Personally, I liked the abalone porridge too. It's warm before the meal. The side dishes were all pretty good overall.

Shrimp, the main seafood of the Value Set

And then the main seafood I was most looking forward to! The shrimp in the Value Set were more plentiful and plumper than I expected, which was great.

Insanely delicious, a total flavor bomb. If you set the shrimp heads aside separately, they'll make butter-grilled shrimp heads for you at no extra charge! Peel the shrimp first and then ask, and enjoy every bit 🤍👍

The main sashimi: portion size and taste

Then the main sashimi came out. Isn't the amount great for the price? My boyfriend and I both agreed it's a total bargain••• The shrimp and everything came with it for ₩79,000 for two, and the sashimi is this much too, so I'm very happy.

And if the sashimi isn't tasty, that's the end of it, right..? It was delicious.

I thought I'd definitely come back with friends for a get-together. Lots of groups were there for drinks. It was a real seafood place with lots of middle-aged men.

Is Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada worth it? Final verdict

I went on a weekend evening and waited a little, but Jaecheoldameun Mapo Bada was satisfying! It opened in September, so the restaurant is clean and comfortable. The Value Set we ordered was satisfying, with everything from shrimp and sashimi to abalone porridge and salad. If you want a generous seafood spread near Daeheung Station, I recommend it. Daeheung Station restaurant approved 🤍
