Gyodong, Daegu Thai restaurant to replace a closed favorite: Thai Yami
In short
Thai Yami is a Thai restaurant on the main road of Gyodong in Jung-gu, Daegu. After the writer's favorite Thai restaurant closed, the writer and friends tried Thai Yami and ordered kai phrai (21,000 won), pad thai (15,000 won), cha gio (fried spring rolls, 5,000 won) and two draft beers (9,000 won). Thai Yami's pad thai had the classic taste of the old favorite, and the fried dishes were crisp with no stale-oil smell, making Thai Yami worth a visit for Thai food in Daegu.

Where do you go most often in downtown Daegu? Gyodong? Dongseongno? Samdeok-dong? I honestly don't end up in Gyodong much, because there's no decent place to eat there. Plenty of bars though.. But I found a brand-new Gyodong restaurant in Daegu, so let me introduce it! Every single dish was delicious, and if you like Thai food, I recommend it, absolutely!! :)
Where is Thai Yami, and what are the hours and parking?

It also accepts the high oil price relief subsidy.
Thai Yami's exterior and interior

Thai Yami sits right on Gyodong's main road, so it's super easy to get to 👍🏻👍🏻 The moment I saw the outside I thought, 'There's a place with this good a vibe in Gyodong..?' It has a bit of a restaurant feel, classy but with a slight bar-like mood too!

You can check the menu outside before you go in, so I think people looking for a Gyodong place to eat will read it and step inside haha

Thai Yami was full of customers, as a hot spot would be, so I only got one shot of the inside. There aren't a huge number of seats, but it's mostly tables for 4, perfect for a cozy chat, and there are bar seats too, so the mood is really nice :)

At Thai Yami we ordered kai phrai (chicken) for ₩21,000, pad thai for ₩15,000, jo (fried spring rolls) for ₩5,000 and 2 draft beers for ₩9,000. I love Thai food, and my favorite Thai restaurant is gone T_T Could Thai Yami win me over?!!

Free coleslaw and crackers at Thai Yami

Thai Yami brings out coleslaw with crackers by default. It's just right for getting your appetite going haha. It was tasty!! Plain crackers with nutty coleslaw, need I say more~~

Okay, the main dishes are finally here. The pad thai and kai phrai look insane, right? ✨✨
What does Thai Yami's signature kai phrai taste like?

Kai phrai is Thai Yami's signature dish. 'Kai' means chicken in Thai, and it's fried chicken. I'd never heard the name before, but with Thai Yami's own soy sauce, it was a flavor anyone, young or old, would like!

It felt like Kyochon chicken turned into soft chicken tenders, with a fresh tang added to the soy sauce?? The beer just goes down with it. I thought I tasted a bit of coconut too..? Crispy and so good haha
Draft beer with the kai phrai

I couldn't resist and ordered beer too. At Thai Yami, beer is a must ❤️🔥❤️🔥 The draft beer was super smooth and not very fizzy, so it went down in big gulps 🍺
Can Thai Yami's pad thai replace a closed favorite?

Thai Yami's pad thai tasted really similar to my favorite pad thai place. The textbook version of really good pad thai! My friends raved about it too. The shrimp were plump and delicious, and the peanut flavor came through quite a lot, so it was nutty and tasty.
How crisp are the cha gio and fried dishes?

Thai Yami seems to be really good at frying. The fried dishes had no stale oil smell and were crisp, in great shape. The jo (Vietnamese-style fried spring rolls) were crunchy and felt like dumplings, so they were perfect as a side :)
Final verdict on Thai Yami in Gyodong, Daegu
I finally found a great restaurant after a long time. It was good enough that my friends said they want to come back too 👍🏻👍🏻 If you're looking for a great Thai restaurant in Daegu, give Thai Yami a visit!!
