Yangjae Station chicken BBQ takeout for a picnic: Yanggyegok
In short
Yanggyegok (양계옥) is a charcoal-grilled dakgalbi (Korean chicken BBQ) restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, in the alley with Olive Young and Starbucks near Yangjae Station Exit 4. The writer ordered 2 portions of salt dakgalbi, 2 portions of gochujang dakgalbi and a flying fish roe rice ball to go for a picnic with friends at Yangjae Citizen's Forest, and the owner packed all the sauces into one container to cut down on trash. Verdict: alternating the tender, fat-trimmed salt dakgalbi with the fragrant gochujang dakgalbi makes Yanggyegok takeout an easy picnic spread.

How to eat Yanggyegok chicken for the best flavor
I was told the best combo is one perilla leaf, a slice of pickled radish, a piece of chicken, then fish roe and the special mayo sauce on top!

Aprons and menus hung on the wall. If you follow Yanggyegok's Instagram and tag them in your story, you get one of 4 side dishes as a free service!!

They also had a newly released omija (five-flavor berry) drink! It was so good.

Yanggyegok self-serve bar and sauces
The self-serve bar at Yanggyegok had garlic, pickled radish wraps, chili peppers, perilla leaves, ssamjang (dipping paste), pickles, kimchi and cubed radish kimchi.

The kimchi is very spicy, so they say not to eat it on an empty stomach!!

There are 4 kinds of sauce too!

On the way out, there are candies to freshen your mouth.

Takeout Yanggyegok chicken for a picnic at Yangjae Citizen's Forest
I took Yanggyegok chicken to go so I could eat it with friends at Yangjae Citizen's Forest!

Normally 2 portions come with 2 sauce containers, but when we said we were eating at a picnic, the owner said we shouldn't end up with lots of trash and packed it all into one container. Such a thoughtful owner,, really great.

The perilla leaves and pickled radish were generous too!!

How does Yanggyegok's signature salt chicken taste?
This is Yanggyegok's signature salt chicken! It's grilled over charcoal so the fat drains off and it's golden brown, and it was seriously good!! The meat wasn't dry at all, just totally tender and soft, I'm tearing up!

How does Yanggyegok's gochujang chicken taste?
The second dish is the gochujang chicken! The seasoning is so good.. It looks totally wild, and the smell inside the container was seriously delicious..

The full spread! Laid out outdoors on a nice day, it tasted several times better! The salt chicken, gochujang chicken and fish roe rice ball I took out from Yanggyegok were the number one dish that day! haha

One bite of salt, one bite of gochujang is the best,,,,,, I recommend Yanggyegok for dakgalbi near Yangjae Station!!
