No trip to Sokcho is complete without wandering Sokcho Tourist and Fishery Market, packed with delicious food to try! On this trip, besides meals, I was also on the hunt for desserts to enjoy at our accommodation or bring home as gifts. So I stopped by Doris Patisserie, already famous among Sokcho travelers as a must-visit egg tart bakery with lines out the door, and one of Sokcho's signature bakeries.

This place is notorious for selling out its walk-in stock super fast, so we made sure to book two boxes of the original egg tarts by text the day before our visit and picked them up safely! Here's everything you need — from how to reserve, to parking info, to the best way to enjoy them.

What to watch for at the Doris Patisserie pickup

Pickup slots are 10:00–10:20, 12:00–12:20, and 15:00–15:20. Once you arrive at the store, you can pick up your order after confirming the last 4 digits of the phone number used for the reservation. Even reserved customers are served in the order they arrive, so if you show up later than your designated pickup time, you'll be moved to the walk-in queue instead — so it really pays to arrive on time!

When we got to the store, the showcase genuinely surprised me! Most of the other popular menu items were already gone, with only a few originals left.

If we hadn't reserved ahead and just showed up on a whim, we might have walked away empty-handed! This place is so popular that I'd definitely recommend texting in a reservation the day before your visit to avoid a wasted trip.

What is the Doris Patisserie store like?

Inside Doris Patisserie, a soft, sweet butter scent drifted through the air, making the whole space feel warm and cozy — a cute, stylish little spot. The interior was spotlessly clean and well-organized overall, so I could pick out my order with peace of mind.

What really stood out was that even amid a steady stream of customers, the owner and staff still made eye contact and greeted us warmly and kindly while checking our reservation details.

Best way to eat the egg tarts and how long they keep

Doris Patisserie's packaging note includes both the storage periods and the reheating method. Let me sum up the storage tips and best-tasting tricks written right on the note!

Reheating the egg tarts at 180℃

Highly recommend eating them the day you buy them!! They taste best fresh, when the pie crust is still crisp.

  • Air fryer / oven: a light 2–3 minute bake at 180℃ brings back that just-out-of-the-oven crispness.
  • Chilled like ice cream: eat them cold after refrigerating, or partially thaw them from frozen for an ice-cream-like treat — a fun different way to enjoy them.
  • No microwave: microwaving makes the pie crust go soggy, so it's not recommended.

Room temperature, fridge and freezer storage times

  • Room temperature: day of purchase
  • Refrigerated: within 2 days (freeze if not eating right away)
  • Frozen: within 2 weeks (seal well for longer storage)

Honest review of the original egg tart

This time we packed up two boxes of the most basic, yet signature, original egg tart, six to a box.

They come in a neat package, perfect as a Sokcho trip souvenir or thank-you gift! The color alone looks so appetizing, right?!

Crisp shell, pudding-soft custard

The moment we opened the box, the golden-brown, beautifully baked egg tarts immediately caught the eye. One bite in, and I could feel that satisfying 'crunch' of layered pastry, followed by the sweet, savory egg custard filling melting smoothly in my mouth!

Clean, elegant sweetness with no eggy aftertaste

With egg custard fillings, there's always a risk of that eggy smell, right?! Maybe because Doris Patisserie uses good ingredients, but there was absolutely no fishy taste — just a subtle, luxurious depth of vanilla and butter flavor.

Egg tart served on a plate with a drink

It wasn't overly sweet, so paired with a warm Americano or a glass of milk, a whole box disappeared in no time. Even the kids polished off two each on the spot. Honestly, I might have to travel back just to buy more egg tarts!!

If you're looking for a sweet treat to cleanse your palate after raw fish or dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken) on a Gangwon-do trip, or thinking about a thoughtful gift to bring home for family and friends, why not try Doris Patisserie, the egg tart bakery? With its perfect combo of crisp pastry and silky custard cream, this Sokcho bakery is worth the trip — just be sure to text in a reservation the day before your visit so you don't walk away empty-handed when they sell out!
