Gangdong hair salon: level 4 deep black and hem layers, Yume's Hair

Yume's Hair Cheonho Branch is a hair salon offering one-on-one consultations on Cheonho-daero in Gangdong, Seoul, between Cheonho Station and Gangdong Station. The writer, who is growing her hair to waist length, had patchy brown hair toned down to a level 4 deep black and light layers cut into the ends only, finishing in 1 hour 20 minutes. Yume's Hair Cheonho Branch suits anyone who wants a quiet, quick tone-down and a long-hair trim.

Weekend 11:30 Korean BBQ in Sinjungdong: back-door parking, Cham

Cham Dwaejitgan Bucheon Sinjungdong Branch is a Korean BBQ restaurant in the Sinjungdong Station food alley in Bucheon, serving pork belly smoked over oak charcoal and rice husks. The writer had just moved to Bucheon, arrived around 11:30 a.m. on a weekend, and ordered Cham pork belly (Boseong green-tea pork), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and Jirisan kudzu mul naengmyeon (cold noodles). The thick, smoky staff-grilled pork belly and potato slice wraps stood out most. With parking, a spacious dining room and near-24-hour hours, Cham Dwaejitgan is a solid pick for team dinners and group meetups.

Konkuk Univ. rice bowl date spot: spicy pork jowl set, Hekbap

Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is a Japanese home-style rice bowl (donburi) and ramen restaurant on the 2nd floor near Exit 3 of Konkuk Univ. Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. On a date, the writer ordered the pork jowl rice bowl set and the cube steak rice bowl: the pork jowl bowl was smoky, spicy and sweet, the cube steak bowl had tender meat and a mild soy sauce, and the set's fried chicken, mini udon and grilled rice cake were all satisfying. With big portions and a varied menu, Hekbap Konkuk University Main Branch is a Konkuk Univ. rice bowl spot that works for both dates and solo meals.

Bucheon food court meal swap where the fries won: Angry Potato

Angry Potato Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch is an American-style fast casual potato restaurant in the basement 1 food court of Hyundai Department Store Jungdong in Bucheon. On a day the writer skipped a meal, a Deep Crunch Box plus a whole mozzarella cheese stick, vanilla soft serve and Angry potato chips stood in for lunch, and of everything ordered, the crispy-outside, fluffy-inside french fries were the best. The Angry Potato Deep Crunch Box works better as a snack for two to share while shopping than as a filling meal.

Late-night Busan photo studio: 3-person flip book at Jeonpo Times

Movie Photo Book Jeonpo Times is a 24-hour unmanned self-photo studio on Jeonpo Café Street in Busanjin, Busan, open year-round, that turns an 8-second video into a 20-page flip book. The writer visited Jeonpo Times late at night with two younger friends she hadn't seen in a while, printed two flip books, and also took a free black-and-white receipt photo and an A3 black-and-white newspaper photo. Unlike a still four-cut photo booth, moving nonstop for 8 seconds turned the shoot itself into the memory, making Jeonpo Times a fun thing to do in Jeonpo.

Quattro cheese pizza with honey at a Busan pub in Seomyeon: Craft Hans

Craft Hans Seomyeon Branch is a craft beer pub in a Dongcheon-ro alley in Seomyeon, Busan. Over the Chuseok holiday the writer met friends there and ordered the quattro cheese pizza dipped in honey, a Cajun chicken salad and the 4-beer craft sampler of Hans Pilsner, weizen, dark ale and pale ale. With a relaxed room and food that holds up to the beer, Craft Hans Seomyeon Branch is an easy Seomyeon pub to recommend to craft beer beginners.

Earl Grey and lemon highballs at Mokhwa Silbi, a Seomyeon bar

Mokhwa Silbi is a Korean pub in Seomyeon, Busan, hidden in the 2beon-ga alley near Seomyeon Station and known for its open-sky outdoor seats. Over the Chuseok holiday three of us ordered Set 1 (mille-feuille nabe and cream cheese shrimp fondue) with an Earl Grey highball and a lemon highball, then added rice noodle sari to finish. Two mains were more than enough for three, so Mokhwa Silbi is an easy pick for a Seomyeon bar with atmosphere.

Jeonpo café in Busan: Dubai chocolate cream pie and rouge tea, Hippy

Hippy is a handmade cream pie and bread pudding café in an alley off the Jeonpo café street in Busanjin, Busan. On a Busan trip, the writer paired Hippy's Dubai chocolate cream pie with an iced americano and a caffeine-free Mariage Frères Marco Polo rouge tea, and the crisp kataifi with its restrained sweetness was easy to linger over. Hippy opens daily from 11:00 to 22:00 and takes dogs and reservations for a 6-person group table, so it slots easily into a Busan itinerary.
