Danyang market bakery Sets 1 and 3 after a 10-minute lunch wait
In short
Black Garlic Salt Bread is a salt bread bakery inside Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk, right in front of the Jandomun gate. On a holiday weekend lunchtime visit the wait was about 10 minutes, and the order was Set 1 (four originals, 11,000 won) and Set 3 (four flavors, 14,000 won): the garlic salt bread had a gentle garlic aroma that suits gifting, while the original kept its buttery hollow even after reheating in an air fryer. It was the most memorable bread of the whole Danyang trip and worth a second visit.

A bakery in Danyang's Gugyeong Market — the tastiest thing I ate on my whole Danyang trip was this black garlic salt bread. I usually prefer rice over bread, but salt bread is the one exception I'm genuinely obsessed with, and if I had to pick the best thing I ate in Danyang, it might just be this. I'd absolutely go back next time I'm in Danyang! Let me introduce Black Garlic Salt Bread, a bakery in Danyang Gugyeong Market.
Where Black Garlic Salt Bread is, plus hours and parking
Black Garlic Salt Bread sits inside Danyang Gugyeong Market, and it's the only bakery in the market that specializes in salt bread. It's right in front of Jandomun gate at the market — you'll spot it right after passing Ttangs Budae-jjigae.

Open 10:00–20:00, closed every Wednesday.
For parking, use the free Danyang Gugyeong Market public parking lot.
Set menu lineup and prices at Black Garlic Salt Bread
Here's the menu at Black Garlic Salt Bread. They do sell individual pieces, but the sets looked like much better value, so I got two: the classic Set 1 to take home, and Set 3 to sample a bit of everything.

Baked the same day, sold the same day
I visited during the holiday period, right when it was packed with customers, but the staff worked fast enough that the wait was short and I got my order quickly. They kept restocking the shelves the moment bread sold out — since the shop bakes and sells everything the same day, it's worth going in the morning if you can.

How many kinds of salt bread does Black Garlic Salt Bread sell?
Black Garlic Salt Bread makes four kinds: the classic original salt bread, a crispy-topped soboro salt bread, and two versions with Danyang's famous garlic — regular garlic and black garlic. If you want to try all four, go for Set 3; if you love the classic, Set 1 is the pick!

The black garlic salt bread made with black garlic salt
They say the Danyang black garlic salt bread uses black garlic slow-cooked for 15 hours from local six-clove Danyang garlic, plus black garlic salt aged for 20 days using Taean sun-dried salt. Reading the description while waiting only built up my excitement, and I could catch glimpses of the bread being made in the waiting area, which was fun to watch.

How long is the wait at Black Garlic Salt Bread?
This place is already well-known among Danyang market bakeries, and since I went around weekend lunchtime there was a bit of a wait — but it moved quickly. The line in the photo below only took about 10 minutes before I was buying my bread, so don't be discouraged if you see a queue — it's worth waiting for. It's that good.

Tasting the four salt breads in Set 3
I kept Set 1, with its four originals, to eat back home, and opened up Set 3 — the four-flavor assortment — to enjoy during the Danyang trip. Set 3, ₩14,000: 1 original + 1 soboro + 1 garlic + 1 black garlic.

Garlic salt bread: mild enough to give as a gift
If you're buying these as a gift, I'd recommend the garlic salt bread and the original — they seem like the safest bets, least likely to divide opinion. The garlic salt bread isn't overpoweringly garlicky; it's more like a mild garlic-bread coating, easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Original salt bread and how to store it
The original salt bread's butter cave was proper — even reheated at home in the air fryer, it held up perfectly. For storage: keep it at room temperature for a day or two, and if you're eating it later than that, freeze it and reheat in the air fryer for a crisp-outside, moist-inside result.

Black Garlic Salt Bread is a great stop for a bakery pilgrimage through Danyang Gugyeong Market — personally, it was the most memorable bakery of my whole Danyang trip, and I'd definitely recommend trying it at least once.
