Why I chose sashimi takeout in Yangyang

On this Gangwon trip, I pre-ordered a sashimi platter for two at Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout (어실장 회포장) in Yangyang to eat at our lodging. Whenever I visit the Gangwon coast, sashimi is practically a must. This time, instead of the touts on the sashimi restaurant street, I planned to take it out and eat comfortably at the hotel.

Location, parking and pick-up at Eosiljang

Eosiljang is a takeout-only sashimi shop, but it sits in a spot with a lovely ocean view in Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang. There's an open lot in front, so parking is easy.

Several groups were picking up orders when I went, and the order alerts kept pinging! It seems everyone doing sashimi takeout in Yangyang ends up here. Since so many people pick up, you need to give your order number clearly to get your packed sashimi quickly.

A shop with a Hajodae ocean view

This is the ocean view from Eosiljang. It's a great sashimi takeout spot, yet the scenery is lovely and the interior is stylish and moody! The building looks like a boutique stay. Hajodae Beach is nearby, so on a nice day you could take your sashimi to the beach. It's getting cold now, so I'm eyeing next spring or autumn!

With a view like this, waiting wouldn't feel like a waste, right? But Eosiljang prepares orders for your reservation time, so I got my packed sashimi right when I arrived. Lots of people camp or car-camp in Yangyang these days. Grilling meat while camping is nice, but since you're at the sea, I bet a sashimi platter from Eosiljang would make camping even more fun and tasty.

The inside is tidy, and the two male owners seemed to run it cleanly and efficiently. There's a notice that opening can be delayed depending on the fishing schedule, so I guess they catch the seafood themselves!

The platter for two was neatly packed with ice packs. It contains sea squirt, which can leak, so I carried it carefully and kept it level.

What's in the sashimi platter for two?

I opened the platter at the hotel. It was just the right amount for two: assorted sashimi and seafood, plus seaweed, lettuce, chili sauce, soy sauce and everything else you need to eat sashimi.

It depends on the day's catch, but there were fresh slices of several kinds, such as flounder, olive flounder, rockfish, sea bream and sea bass.

Assorted seafood like abalone, sea squirt, shrimp and sea snails was included too, which was a really satisfying mix for my husband and me, since we love seafood.

Not just the sashimi and seafood: even the wrap vegetables and garlic were fresh.

Taste and freshness

The platter had plenty of chewy sashimi, just right for two people.

Nothing fishy at all. The fresh sashimi and assorted seafood were perfect with drinks.

A sashimi shop that packs seaweed too

Moderately fatty fish goes really well wrapped in seaweed. Unless it's tuna, few sashimi shops pack seaweed, so the owner here really knows food 👍🏻

Wrap sashimi with sharp, pungent garlic and it can't not be good!! Maybe because they ran a sashimi shop for over 15 years before moving to the current location, the quality and freshness were really good!
