Today was a Gangnam date✨ We shopped, watched a movie, and wandered around, then stopped in for a caffeine fix before dinner☕️ I remembered the desserts here being so good on my last visit that coming back felt natural🤍 It's spacious, the mood is lovely, and I'd recommend it as a Gangnam date stop: Upper and Under, a café near Gangnam Station. How to get to Upper and Under, and where to park
Upper and Under is about a 4-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6, open daily 11:00-22:00, and takeout is available. There's no dedicated parking lot or valet in the building, so if you drive you'll need to use a nearby public or private lot.
It's even walkable from Gangnam Station, so it was perfect for a break during a Gangnam date! It works for a rest after shopping and a movie before dinner, and I liked that it's easy to reach as a meeting spot too.
🚘 If you're driving, use the nearby Yeoksam Cultural Park Public Parking Lot No. 2 or the Bethel private lot. Both are about a 3-minute walk from the café, so it wasn't much of a hassle :) I hear buying a parking pass in advance on the Modu Parking app makes it a bit easier, so take note if you're coming by car🚗
The weather was so nice it put me in a great mood for this café tour🤍 Upper and Under uses the whole building, so it's much bigger than you'd expect!! Every floor is café space, so there's plenty of seating and you can spend time comfortably without feeling cramped🤍 And no wait either, total win✨
Is the inside of Upper and Under spacious?
The space opens up the moment you walk into Upper and Under, so I could relax comfortably among the usually crowded Gangnam Station cafés. Each floor has different kinds of seating, and with outlets and good Wi-Fi, I saw plenty of people studying or working on laptops.
Many Gangnam Station cafés are packed and noisy, so I liked how open Upper and Under feels as soon as you step in. It runs from the 1st to the 3rd floor with varied seating, and it looked suitable for everything from solo visits to dates, friend meetups and groups. The warm wood-toned interior makes you want to stay a long time🤍
What's on the drink menu at Upper and Under?
Upper and Under's menu is really varied, covering coffee, tea and non-coffee drinks. From the signature cream latte series to special items like the mango bar sherbet latte, I honestly struggled to pick. Some people can't drink coffee these days, right? There are plenty of easy options, which makes it a good date café too🤍
Why Upper and Under is a dessert spot near Sinnonhyeon Station
The Upper and Under showcase holds a huge range of desserts: financiers (small almond butter cakes), canelés (caramelized French pastries), butter tteok (chewy rice cakes), and rectangular mousse cakes. Honestly, desserts were the main reason I came back😂
The moment I saw the showcase, my dessert-lover happy dopamine kicked in💓 I think this is why I go on café tours, hehe. The financiers alone come in yellow cheese, nuts, plain, salt choco, hojicha pecan and more, so I spent ages deciding🤍
The canelés also come in double vanilla, vanilla, matcha, salted caramel and more, so much variety that you could call it a canelé specialty shop, a real Gangnam canelé hotspot.

The Upper and Under lemon cake was my top dessert pick that day🍋 The fresh lemon aroma was strong but never got tiring, and it paired wonderfully with coffee.
Iced americano: clean with low acidity
The Upper and Under iced americano is clean and not very acidic, so it goes well with sweet desserts. Wow,, it was so hot out, and a cold iced americano felt like a lifesaver hahaha
Signature cream latte (Einspänner): three ways to drink it
The signature cream latte, Upper and Under's flagship drink, has really delicious cream!! First I wanted to taste the smooth cream as it is, so I took a bite of just the cream. Then I drank it with the coffee, and finally I mixed everything together. Each way tasted different, which made it more fun :)
Sweet corn madeleine: a June seasonal item
Seasonal chodang corn (a sweet corn variety) in June✨ The Upper and Under sweet corn madeleine had a charming, subtle corn aroma. Soft madeleine plus chewy corn kernels was tastier than I expected, and I finished it in no time😂
Salted caramel canelé: crisp outside, moist inside, salty flavor
The Upper and Under salted caramel canelé is crisp outside and moist inside! The salty caramel flavor made it go really well with coffee😭😭 I love canelés, so it was a proper sugar recharge after a while🤍

Upper and Under is currently giving one free financier for joining an event! It's limited to the first 10 teams per day, they say! I took a yellow cheese financier home as takeout, and it was so good even eaten at home💛 Little events like this made the visit even nicer.

I went in for one cup of coffee and left satisfied with the desserts too, so my revisit chance is 100%🙋🏻♀️ Among Gangnam Station cafés, finding one that's spacious, has a good mood and tasty desserts isn't as easy as you'd think😅😅
